I honestly don't see what's wrong with gravedigging. If the thread is in the forum, it's still part of the community, meaning it should be allowed to be bumped/posted on. I don't consider gravedigging a big deal.
So you're saying a 3 year old thread should be allowed to be bumped and that person posts 'Thanks' or a one word reply or things of the like? There is no reason the thread should be brought back to life and It's happened before.
Which then brings us into the territory of "how do we determine what is interesting". If we did that then people might start getting confused and think that the gravedigging rule has gone, it's hard to determine what's interesting and what isn't and at the same time punish someone for asking for a download link to something thats expired in 2008.
And what's wrong with that? If you think that the post was intended to be spam/troll, then do your job and remove it.
What's wrong if that post was genuine? Surely its better to use the same thread then forcing that person to make a new thread. I don't see why the thread creation date should make any difference, its nothing more then a couple of numbers.
And as Graham said:
"Thing is lots of help threads when answered, might not always be answered adequately. Often the answers can be improved or clarified, which is what I wanted to do in this case.
This still appears to be an issue. There are a number of threads in the Informative Threads section which have been silently locked for no obvious reason whatsoever. Here are a few examples:

https://www.rune-server.ee/runescape...e-codes-2.html

SWAT's response in the last one highlights the issue, I think:
There shouldn't need to be a justification for a thread being open - this is a discussion forum. There should be justification for them being closed. Closing threads should be an exceptional action for when there can honestly be no further valuable discussion, at all, and all other moderation attempts have failed. It should not be used when a moderator thinks that the thread has run its course.
My response here serves as a perfect example of why threads don't need to be closed when discussion "finishes" - this is a continuation of the discussion, just 7 years late.
