This vote-in system is not designed to be clique-y as other ones may be. Popularity does not factor in here at all, contributions matter. I'm sorry if you don't see that.
It's not *just* activity requirements. Contributions are required to maintain the rank. Contributions are not just related to the forum, either. They can be Discord help contributions, open-source RSPS-related project contributions, or other means of contributions. It is worth stating again, we are not limiting this just to forums, unlike other ranks typically may have been in the past. You could argue that Contributor and Respected Member ranks are similar since you're probably respected if you're a Contributor, however, Contributor is explicitly different because it is specifically designed for people who are providing meaningful contributions in one manner or another, and are expected to continue providing contributions as they have done so previously. There are Respected Members who have not contributed anything in a long time, possibly ever.
In regards to activity requirements for other ranks, that's not necessarily true either - we removed a bunch of designers and other ranks even just earlier this year.
At this point I feel like you may not have a full understanding of this rank, and perhaps we failed to communicate all of the details about this rank.
It's not designed to be the be-all-end-all rank, but there was a good amount of thought and effort put into this rank, even if it may not seem like it to you at first glance.
Yeah I hear what you're saying, again this just screams "this will be different this time" with no indication of anything being different. In the RM section there's a thread called "The Code" and #2 of the code says:
""2) A required level of activity must be maintained in order to remain active in the ranks. Must maintain a weekly posting habit in which high quality/constructive post are made.""
When do you ever see this kind of shit enforced? Virtually never. The designer rank was flat out removed and I'm the last person to have any RMs stripped in years.
The core issue you aren't seeing is that there are ultimately still a "governing body" of people who decide/judge contributions and effectively decide the rules themselves unless Scu just makes a sweeping decision. Whatever restrictions and requirements you throw onto the rank are subject to the same problems as the requirements and restrictions as *every other rank*. What really counts as a contribution? After so many people attain the rank it's too much to manage.
I'm sure you guys did and the rank isn't a bad idea as I've said, but you guys forgot to address the issues with the current ranks (i.e. RM) and just made a rank to blanket over top of it. And now, against what 14+ years of Rune-Server history tells us, we're just going to believe that this rank is going to be adequately maintained and not cliquey blah blah blah. Need I remind you btw that people literally made that stupid "rebellion chat" or whatever *because of this rank* lmao. It's not designed to be the be-all-end-all rank, but there was a good amount of thought and effort put into this rank, even if it may not seem like it to you at first glance.
If you don't see how this rank is different at this point then I'm really not sure what else there is for me to say. We will just have to prove that this is different, especially considering our staff team is different than it was 14 years ago, or even 5 or 2 or 1 year ago. This rank is just one iteration of many planned changes, and isn't designed to address other ranks shortcomings or issues - it's designed to supplement other ranks and improve the community overall by encouraging positive contributions. We have already noticed more contributions than before, so it is already improving things which is great to see. If you want to know what counts as a contribution, look at the main post for examples of contributions - there are plenty of different ways one can contribute. You can always mention to staff or an existing Contributor someone you might think would be well suited for the rank.
Also, just because people aren't active on the forums doesn't mean they aren't active in Discord, which they mostly are. Of course, activity is not necessarily the same thing as contributions, which is worth mentioning once more. Again, we have removed people from ranks even just earlier this year (2021). A lot of this stuff happens behind the scenes, as you would imagine staff activity does, but it is happening.
The supposed rebellion chat actually came before the rank, so that's not actually why it was created, so it seems a bit odd to me to mention that.
Anyways, we should probably stop discussing this here and let things get more back on topic.
If you have any actual complaints or suggestions, like actionable things that we can work on, you can always feel free to send me a PM.
