I'd vote for a new rank specifically for 3D Modelers rather than changing the name to Artist. Artist is just too general IMO almost anything can be considered art, also it would clarify what kind of "artist" they are if there was simply a new rank. This rank could also be used for the map designers since they are also 3D models.

Designing models and maps is an art, plus we're a RSPS forum and what more is fitting than that.
I just read through the whole thread. I would change my ‘no’ to ‘yes’ for a new “modellers” rank

Voted no because I think modelers and map makers should have their own rank. Artist as other have said is too broad as programmers, animators, audio engineers, and game designers can all be considered artists of their respective domains.

Agreed, will help individuals to work towards the rank and show their skills.
    Good suggestion

I would back this, but also for map creators. There are some people in the community who can create maps upto the same standard as Jagex, sometimes better imo

Id vouch for separate ranks perhaps, so you can see who does what. So GFX stays that way, and add a separate modeler etc. rank

    This makes the most sense.

The issue with that is, as others have mentioned, where do you stop? If we have a rank for modelers, what about the animators and video editors? There's not enough activity in any ONE of these niche areas to constitute a rank.

Really think the most optimal solution if anything is to be done is scrapping the context-less "GFX" stuff that has been dead for years, and make the designer rank encompass all aspects of RSPS design. Since it's a vote-in group, the members should be more than capable of deciding what qualifies as good "RSPS art" or whatever you want to call it, whether it be modelling, animation, map creation, etc.

Thakiller and Riley made some solid points on the rank not being something to solely revive the model community. Its hard to say whether a rank would bring any big growth to the section, but its still a possibility.

"This idea of adding more ranks / expanding them to 'promote activity' makes no sense. This community has been around for years, people will not suddenly join R-S / get into the various forms of 'art' because of some colorful forum rank".

I can completely understand this and see why people would be against the idea. That being said, I don't see any harm in including both people who make maps and models into a separate rank. It might be a rank that would help in finding talented model / map artists as someone mentioned before.

here's my take on it. I haven't been around the community as long as some of you, but I can say without a doubt that these past few years has seen a much bigger growth / activity for models and maps. Just as programming sections are vital for rsps development, I strongly believe so are maps and models. We've seen some great tools come out such as Displee's model editor, Mikans Inventory editor, Ghost's POSERGL, RSPSI map tool, and much more. I never thought I'd see any new tools / support for models aside from datmaker lmao. The point is that Models and Maps are pretty important too for rsps development even though we aren't really considered "developers". Nobody plays RSPS anymore because they cant afford it like they did 10-15 yrs ago. I think most people play to have fun with new features that RSPS offer which real rs doesn't such as new minigames, interfaces, skills, whatever else (ofc there are the osrs / other rev replicas too). You cant really have a "unique" rsps without investing some time and effort for your 3D assets like weapons, armors, maps, etc. Jagex didnt stop at osrs and think they only needed a few interface revamps and QOL changes, they continued with new items, maps, etc. Its a game and visuals are just as important with how the game runs too. Anyways I could be completely off my rails here but this is just how I've looked at it.

For those reasons I think its a great idea to have these members recognized for their work and contributions through the form of a rank. Now talking about if the rank should be put with designers or split, I'd say it should be split if you ask me. It would be a little confusing for people who saw modelers / map makers with designer rank and getting pms like "so you make sigs and other gfx?", Could possibly something that's more specific to maps and models. Very nice discussion though Kevy will hear of this.
