Interesting topic brought up in discord, now there's an entire debate. Might be better to discuss in an archival setting.
I suggest we adjust the designer group to allow all art forms, particularly modelers, and rename the group to Artist.
I believe modelers deserve more recognition in the community, and by allowing them access to a rank catered to them, it could encourage more work. People like Lumplum and Maximax have exceeded the standards set by custom servers years ago, and deserve to be considered an artist in the eyes of the community.
Let's hear the opinions.
I think it's a good idea. We've got a few members producing truly professional-level work (e.g., Lumplum and Maximax), yet no way to recognize their work. We're out of the lava whips and death wing era of customs. Things like 3D modelling and level design have become significantly more important in the RSPS scene over the past few years and it'd be nice to encourage people to take part.
Yes. It's one of the ranks that actually benefits the community. I've looked at graphics artists rank in the past to see who I could contact for some work, certainly wouldn't mind being able to find modelers this way as well, despite how few there exist. Perhaps it'll even make some new people want to take up modeling.
I would back the idea of including modellers within the designer rank and thats about it,
I dont like the idea of slapping the designer rank onto everyone that does some sort of art outside of rsps if thats what you ment.
Maybe some better set criteria that has to be full filled for the rank in general. Just my take on it.
Modellers is a scarce group of people on r-s, perhaps this idea could encourage more contributions from them which in turn might make more people get into modelling.
I think they deserve the rank for sure. While we're at it, you could give some map designers the rank aswell.
Pros: helps identify people’s skills
Cons: hurts no one
