this is not necessary and mods are not stupid, they wont punish someone for grave digging if an user has a good reason to do so (hopefully)

When a new reply is posted to a thread, if the thread's last post is beyond what is considered a grave-dig then the post should not get bumped in the sub-forum, but instead be posted to a special section just for grave-digs.
This will do two things.
1: stop pissing people off for bumping a topic from 5 years ago.
2: not punish people for legitimate reasons (you found the thread from a Google search and need a question answering, you need someone to re-upload a download link etc.).
It'd be a nice, unique feature to the forums.

The idea isn't necessarily bad, just too much effort for what it's worth. Doubt it's gonna happen.
Yeah I do see what your saying, it's not a bad shout but I agree with nozemi, it is too much effort and hassle. But good suggestion though lad.
I don't think it takes a lot of effort.

It is not considered gravedigging if you reply to a thread with relevant information that would actively provide life to the thread. Threads can only "die" if people fail to continue contributing relevant information. If you reply a 2 year old RSPS help thread that had lots of comments but no actual solution with the actual solution, that thread is now a "normal thread". Discussions may continue as normal so long as replies are oriented towards the subject matter.
Moving these threads to a big collection group merely makes it harder for people to find archived threads pertaining to their particular interests.
1. If people are pissed off about "gravedigging", even though the reply made does not constitute as gravedigging, then these people are simply misinformed on the rules. Who cares how mad they get?
2. Like I said, a post that would constitute as gravedigging is recognizable by any moderator from a mile away. Remember, it is not gravedigging if it actively and relevantly continues the original discussion.
