No, there used to be one where the posts themselves had a light background.
EDIT: looking at the list of available themes in the web archive, I think it was the stock vBulletin style. Though I'm sure I recall another one that wasn't stock, but maybe that was from even longer ago.
Though this isn't a real solution, I use the "Brave.com" browser which is built on Chromium. They have a page distill option which will give you a simplified version of what you're reading.

I also think there are some browser extensions to modify elements on the page for your liking, but I do agree there should be an option without having to do it yourself.
