Rs classic section is dead and would be better suited to having a board for those kinda niche revisions (classic, rs3, customs servers to a lesser extent). Then have subforums for each to organise their content. I realise you run into the problem of people saying well can we have a subforum for xxx revision/server type etc but it would be quite easy to work those out on a case by case basis.
Thoughts?
Bundling a bunch of revisions that have no similarities isn't going to achieve anything and just alienate those communities that are already small.
People posting rs3 content in the 503+ section benefits them because there are a lot of similarities between the protocols. Segregating their content into another board, filled with completely irrelevant revisions (i.e. classic) helps to alienate the already small classic community and worsens the experience of rs3 developers as they are now forced into a small section and are potentially missing a wider audience that are working on a protocol that is not so different.
The point of putting them under a parent forum for niche revisions is to reduce the clutter of having a load of boards on the index page that aren't very active. It's not alienating a community rather than giving them a specific home instead of merging with a load of other communities.
My suggestion wasn't only for rs3 but still its not like those developers wouldn't be able to use the 503 section. However for any useful information that applys to rs3+ only you'd have to sift through every revisions content since 503.. Which seems offputting to me. Ease of access to information specific to your goal i find is always better than grouping stuff together because the content is similar. What would be much more useful in this case would be a thread pinned in the suggested rs3 section with links to any useful/relevant threads from the 503+ Section.
Could we have a poll on it and see if this is something the community wants?
Clutter isn't a large issue - we've had the same sectional design for like 10 years with additions here and there as we went on. Reducing clutter at the cost of alienating different communities isn't exactly the most balanced equation on the scale. They're also not exactly given a specific home, by adding a niche revisions board you're basically saying "all you guys are irrelevant to RSPS, discuss amongst yourselves while everyone else does worthwhile shit lol".
i support
No support
scu is right like always, doesnt feel right to mix the really new and really old stuff together
you're saying one extra section which takes up this much space is clutter? ive never clicked that section but i check 503+ stuff regular because im interest in all rsps stuff from like 2006 to present time, would be annoying checking over mixed types like that
if a section is dead, does it matter? its probably because its 2016 and half the kids on here werent born when rsc was made so obv there is not much interest, if anything it could be
RSC/Minesweeper (2001-2003)
RS2 (2004-2007)
-OSRS (2013- )
RSHD (2008-2012)
RS3/EoC/WoW/LoL (2013- )
We could also just keep things as they are but remove the classic section, the classic section is irrelevant. However there's no point to that either, the forums board design hasn't been changed in years.
Worded that wrong, i meant it would be cluttered if there was a section on the index page for each niche revision. The point isnt to alienate them, its to better organise information.
See above re: clutter.
Its not mixing old and new stuff its organizing information better.
