Shortened URL links (bit.ly, tinyurl, etc.) could be anything (porn, screamer, malicious), and it's not worth clicking for unsuspecting users and moderations when checking it.
For example, these two obviously trying to lure me into clicking this link:
Please stop allowing them to be shouted.
Why not ban teh world from sb?
Kevy make me mod and I'll make all your troubles in the SB go away.
OT:
Idk do you mean censor the links or something like that? Cause 9/10 times they're banned when they post those links, and 10/10 times they're banned when reported.
It's against the rules to link screamers, so just adding a written rule indicating "don't link bit.ly" isn't going to do the trick.
Idk how url shorteners should be forbidden. If there's something in it which is against the rules, they get the punishment too.
Or just add a shoutbox default script which will automatically expand shortened urls
This why most of the rsps owners make things like wearing some items illegal for players when they could just add two lines of code to avoid it by the server itself, people look for cheap haxes instead of removing the problem in an efficient way.
Really have nothing better to do than complain about shortened URLs?
It's not that big of a deal. Instead of making several others deal with an issue you have, just don't click the link and get over it. Problem solved for you, and no one else get's unreasonably effected.
Idk why someone deleted my post, but if you don't agree with this suggestion you obviously don't use the shoutbox enough. It's a problem that's growing steadily.
A solution to this has to be made immediately.
I use the Smurl.es Chrome App to shorten URL's on a page so I can see how many clicks it gets. I like knowing statistics and numbers, more often than not, it's to a link right here on Rune-Server as well.
