Rune-Server's blackmarket has been brought back after more than 2 years since its removal. Of course, it wasn't exactly easy to find a legitimate seller, or buyer, for that matter. It seems that no matter what precautions you take, there is no way to fully prevent scamming. But you can reduce it. An official middleman rank can bring many benefits to the current blackmarket, definitely more than if it weren't there at all. It issues a sort of trust between trades, considering that they'll have to be voted in by the community, then approved by the administration. That's how the rank should be given.
The job of a middleman will be, inevitably and obviously, to middleman trades. They will conjure assurance that all parties involved in a trade are true to the deal, and will verify anything that needs to be verified. This can prevent many things at an instance: mangled, edited or stolen images, change of passwords, expired authentication codes or inexistent member subscriptions.
The current blackmarket has a trade at your own risk policy. This will remain as is even if middlemen are reintroduced, but the presence of middlemen will definitely lessen the illusion that the blackmarket is a scammer's convenience store. As a matter of fact, there are no downfalls to reintroducing this rank. If the admission system is even half-decent, no scammers or members with intentions of scamming can be admitted the rank. The administration will, or should, nominate members eligible for the rank, and the community can vote if they see it fit. Involving the community in these decisions is extremely important, because however much the admins think a member is trusted, members know if they can be or not for sure. People will treat staff members differently than they would a regular member, for their own benefits. Again, this is why a community vote is vital.
In short, it all boils down to the reestablishment of the official middleman rank, which can potentially (rather, more likely) lead users to use middlemen for all types of trades, to prevent scamming, and bring some sort of security to the blackmarket.
tl;dr: just fucking read the suggestion.

I was a middle man, but back then we were allowed to charge a % of the trade. Good times.
What exactly do people MM anyways? Accounts?
I, myself, am a very trustworthy person. If I hated someone(like Aj, for example), I still wouldn't scam them, especially since I don't give a shit for RS anymore. I'm sure there's a few other people like me on this website as well.![]()
