Currently about half of the posts in the intellectual debates and discussion section defeat the purpose of having the section in the first place. Apparently people still don't know that short replies like "I agree" or "I don't agree" are not allowed.

Another thing that bothers me is that way too many people can't take the criticism that comes with having a debate or discussion on an 'intellectual level'. Way too many people immediately become offended once you comment on something they just said or once you prove them wrong.

Last but not least it is becoming very annoying that people constantly agree/disagree with something because "that is what my religion says". How is that in anyway a valuable contribution to any discussion? Isn't the whole point of the ID&D section to approach standpoints from a neutral point of view? How can you discuss something properly when at the beginning of the discussion you already have a biased opinion regarding the subject? We all know how most of the discussion about religion in general turned out on R-S; people started flaming each other because of their different beliefs and stand points. It also seems like a lot of subjects are turning into a discussion about religion since some people relate every subject to it.

    Yeah, logic, right?

But seriously, I do agree with this why can't people just accept construction criticism, any criticism at all at a mature manner.

Most teenagers don't actually understand until they have matured, what the section or topics actually mean (to have an intellectual debate about).

It has nothing to do with maturity. Everyone can read rules, it's not that hard.

It does have everything to do with maturity when someone cannot except someone's point of view and only think their opinion is the only one that is correct.

I wouldn't say this has anything to do with intelligence but more so with common sense and following the rules.

Having an opinion and being religious are two different things. I can for example say that I disagree with someone's standpoint, I explain why and the OP replies back, gives valid arguments which makes me change my opinion. Now try this with someone who used religion to back up his/her opinion, 9/10 times it leads to an endless discussion about religion and why the other person is wrong/right.
