So recently i've been toying around with android SDK
And i decided to build a movie streaming app, it isn't ready yet, but a couple of more hours give or take and it should be ready.
but before i release it i wanted to know what are the chances of me being sued for it?
also i live in the UK (thought i'd say that as piracy laws differ depending on the country)
however, as im 16 and don't have enough money to host the movies myself, i've embedded other sites hosting into mine, so other hosts are on my app.
meaning i am not hosting anything.
Would i still get sued, although im not the one hosting the movie?
what stuart is saying is it won't pass the verification measures to even be accepted to Google play... and if it does, a few reports and it's taken down.
It's not worth it, especially at 16 years old. Focus on a movie database like IMDB or rotten tomatoes, not something that could potentially bar you from your future jobs, and cost your family / parents thousands of dollars, if not more . -- Because you're a minor it would be on them.
I don't personally come from the UK, but as of recently I wouldn't do ANY sort of semi-illegal activity there. The laws are getting more strict more often than not.
Andy was legally forever prevented from creating any form of streaming platforms or similar software, and since Music & Video fall under the same category as "Media", it will be unwise to host a media streaming platform that included copyrighted material, without proper licensing and permission from the company you stream from, their affiliates, & their parent companies. However if you only find & stream movies that are uncopyrighted or should I say licensed to be freely redistributed, there shouldn't be any harm in do so. I'm not a legal expert, but from observation from Andy's case, that's what my opinion would be.
