A thread about the most overrated anime in the last decade? It's entertaining, but incredibly predictable and has awfully shallow plot depth, standard of anime in general. It's aging poorly, too. I watched it when it first came out and thought it was the bomb, but now that I'm older it's not as easy to swallow.

It feels like a typical preteen power fantasy (sO cool guy that can do ANyTHiNg!), so much to the extent that most characters may as well be someone's deviantart OC. As someone who enjoys all the themes this show mashed together, I found the way they were presented to be a huge letdown. The dialogue is juvenile; the plot, theme and setting are STOCK; and the pacing is rushed whenever something interesting is actually happening(gotta make way for filler ~I'm not a rebel leader! I have your Pizza Hut, CC!~ hijinks every other fucking episode). From a mecha-enthusiast, visually and thematically the mechs are alright, keeping in mind that most of the time you just see them standing stationary or floating while the pilots talk to each-other; the background art is nothing to call home about, it's standard and can even be dated at times; but the real losers in the visual department are the characters. They're literally just yaoi stick figures that anyone could draw(ft. vaguely presented yuri plot device).

    4/10
If you want to watch a mecha equivalent of Naruto, sans social stigma, it's the show for you.

Haha yeah has anyone seen Naruto!!?!?!?! shocked how most people haven't heard of it ssssss xD

But yeah no Code Geass was like Attack On Titan overhyped / popular at one stage.
But the actual story of it is really interesting, and seeing the protagonist develop was really interesting.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but the only characters that remotely developed were Nina and Jeremiah. Everyone else remained consistent from the getgo with the exception of Lelouch losing his shit a few times. Also the story was literally the most generic anime plot of "Evil boogeyman rules the world by way of domination." that's so overused they don't even try to retell it anymore.

Never known anyone who knew it, never thought it was popular. Sorry for being misinformed >.>
