I wasn't sure where else to post this or what to title it, so I'll start out.
It's been many many years since my last contribution to RSPS, my last ones being "Galkon's Refactored", a pimped-out rendition of MITB, initially intended to eliminate "non-refactored" clients - which was successful.
I am now wondering, what contributions would you like to see from users such as myself, in the 317 era of RS? There are so many things released, so many thing available currently. So what is it exactly is needed at this point to push RSPS forward further? Because so many clients I see are still just, unfortunately, really bad.
If a new refactored base was released, what would you like to see in it? What other features and ideas can you think of would bring back the client/317 scene a little?
Release soulsplits client, launcher and source
Edit: But really, release a better Galkons Refactored, redo what you think could be done better. Add what you believe would help/what is suggested here in this thread. It's all about what you think will help out the community.
Release a launcher (doesn't have to be the one from your video, but something that would be universally used throughout most revisions.
I'd personally prefer you to 'redo' newer clients and help put a better name for revs like 474, 530, etc..
- 474
- 530
- 639
- 667 (idk what most servers are doing now a days, they got shit like "718+")
317 has enough for it's own name and people to build off of. Jump to a new rev.
Hm, this couldn't have come at a much better time. I've been thinking about this a lot lately.
I think one of the biggest issues we face (or at least me personally) is choosing which features to prioritize. Some clients have fullscreen/resizable, some have better (HD) rendering engines.
The biggest issue is finding a level of customizability within a quality client. Runelimited was a great client, but it lacked fog and some other aesthetics. It also didn't have ondemand cache loading, which seems like a very nice feature IMO. I'm not sure of what else it was missing, but those are a few things I've never learned how to do myself.
From a different standpoint, I think that if we had a type of OpenRS for 317 clients we'd have a lot more tools available for modification. Map editing seems to be one of the biggest struggles right now. Not many people understand the structure of the cache very well.
I think people might think I'm lazy for not learning the cache structure and ondemand protocol and all of that, but I've never really had the resources to learn it (like a solid explanation of how it's used with programming examples). Maybe less material release and more theory?
Edit: Also agree that you swapping to a 530 or something would be even better. If I had a more renamed 530, the tools already exist, like OpenRS and a lot of other cache tools. That also eliminates the issue of HD, because god damn HD looks incredible compared to the 317 client
I'd love to see your work in other revisions. Enough with 317...
Well nowadays the clients can be customized a lot and we are adding more and more features which the software renderer doesn't handle too well and starts to limit us.. so I would like to see 317 openGL client, like they have here: http://www.rune-server.org/runescape...mps-world.html
^I think 530 data would work well with that, since its the earliest hd version with most complete maps.
