The player has little appreciation for the complexities of the craft of development. All those intricate hours dealing with things the player does not appreciate take so much time and knowledge to do. Stable is right to say that marketing, graphics and hosting are '50%' of the job. Actually I would go further, since the player has no appreciation beyond the immediacy of content almost all of the actual 'drawing players into' the game comes from good marketing, and it is this that makes the profit for both the developer and the manager. I'm not as pessimistic as Optimism is, I think you will find someone who's only interest is in the development side. It is after all an investment and you do plan on paying them after profit has been made.
