are there any backup links for rs wiki or any documented information about the rs protocol? i have been away for a good 7-9 years looking to dive back into my childhood memories with a project.

This is the only wiki I know of:
    https://rsps.fandom.com/wiki/Runesca...te_Server_Wiki

Also this is the wiki page for the OSRS rev#89 protocol (this one doesn't seem to be listed on the main wiki page):
    https://rsps.fandom.com/wiki/OSRS83_Protocol

Though if you want information about what has changed in OSRS with respect to 317, then I suggest u join the rs-mod discord.

thank you i was unaware of your first link, there used to be a very nice wiki documentation for many of the rs2 protocols Graham and a few other vets put together about 8 years ago the links appear to be dead now.

don’t see me diving into the OSRS client looking to play around with revision 414.

Are there any more up to date wikis? That one for example is missing player updating which is obviously very important.

We could really do with a collaborative wiki on here. People working together to publish important information on the protocol. The informative thread section is absolutely dead it's almost as if serious server discussion stopped in 2009. And if you don't mind me overstepping a bit it'd be nice if people like you could write some of the articles. I could write some too but they probably won't be as good 😅

Some of the content on RSWiki is the work of Graham originally.
    As RSWiki says:
"Many of you may recall Graham and Blakeman's runewiki project - it contained very useful information about numerous client revision protocols and other resources. Unfortunately, the wiki and any backups of the database have been lost for over two years now (and there are no cached copies floating around). Because of this, we've decided (and have started) embarking on the journey of re-creating the wiki."

The claim that the wiki/database has been lost doesn't seem too accurate to me though, unless things changed since 2018, I managed to find it and spin up an instance of the old MediaWiki setup through a little digging.
    From RuneWiki's backup:
"RuneWiki is an attempt at providing a high quality knowledge base for people to get various technical information about RuneScape. It was set up on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 by Graham and blakeman8192 in attempt to improve the future of the RSPS community. We hope that by sharing our knowledge and information, we will be enabling people to further develop RuneScape cheating, hacking, and private servers."

I do agree -- an updated central resource for open collaboration would be nice -- but the problem with anything community-based is finding people to actually write and maintain that documentation. Not to mention the lack of interest in RSPS development from a packet-level perspective, most people just want to make content, not make servers. They'd rather use bases that handle that stuff for them (and that's okay).
In my opinion, the best way to learn is to look at the client. Find a nice refactored client to get started if that's easier. Look through the informative threads at the treasure trove within. Following that, you can always check out how some bases implement handling certain packets.
And in my experience, some of the packet information on RSWiki isn't entirely correct. It's a good start though.

    -- EDIT --
To answer your question... no, I don't know of any single resource/wiki that has more comprehensive info right now. I've been writing my own server emulator in Rust for a few weeks now, and I've got enough in my head that I could document somewhere at this point.

Yeah I'm writing a 377 and the documentation I have found is not great, I think a lot of it makes a great deal of sense when you already know what you're doing, at that point it's fairly self explanatory, a lot of code is clear in itself if you just follow what it's doing but when you're starting out with this it's incredibly hard to appreciate all the subtle things that are not intuitive to a non programmer or even someone who is familiar with programming but not with the specifics of how runescape works.

I definitely agree. And oh jeez, yeah, 377s have even less public documentation than 317.
I could host and put RuneWiki's old 2010 backup back out there, despite being as aged as it is, then collaborate with anyone on that as a starting point. RSWiki does have a few newer pages and protocol information in it though.

Made some changes to the 377 page, not very familiar with wikis is there a way to make the formatting less ugly?
