    Welcome to OldSchool Boneyard (OSBY)!

    Project Inception:
This incredible journey began back in November 2020 when I set out to unravel the mysteries of RuneScape's backend protocols. Little did I know that this quest would lead to the birth of OSBY.

    The RuneLite Revelation:
Armed with the OpenOSRS RuneLite client, I embarked on a deep dive into its code, discovering that RuneLite was a goldmine of resources. It made the client more user-friendly and provided me with the data I needed.

    Deciphering the OSRS Protocol:
To truly understand OSRS, I delved into the OSRS protocol, scouring platforms like Guthix GitHub for insights. After a week of relentless exploration, I successfully downloaded the cache.

    Building the Foundations:
Next, I crafted a robust login system and tackled the complexities of rendering, which took another week.
Over the following weeks, I navigated the intricate world of packets. While building a server isn't a walk in the park, today's wealth of knowledge has certainly made it more manageable than it was in 2008.

    Alpha Testers:
As OSBY began to take shape, I invited a select group of friends to be Alpha testers. Their invaluable feedback and dedication to breaking my code have been instrumental in refining the project.

    The World of OSBY:
OSBY's home is the enchanting Fossil Island, where I've embraced the spirit of RSPS by using the existing map as a foundation. Highlights include the Volcano entrance leading to Brimhaven and a cave granting access to Taverly Dungeon. Our unique Barrows armor set effects, suggested and voted for by the community, add a special touch.

    Custom World Design:
I've minimized reliance on the RS2 Main Map, opting instead for the maps introduced by OSRS as the primary world. NPC spawns don't always adhere to OSRS placements, aligning with our unique endgame vision.

    Authenticity Matters:
To ensure authenticity, I meticulously scrape the OSRS wiki when adding new NPCs to the game. Drops, stats, weaknesses, and more are kept as "accurate" as possible, with some adjustments to create a unique experience.

    Boss Challenges:
Please note that my RuneScape journey spans from the days of RSC to EoC, and I've had limited experience with OSRS-exclusive bosses. I've incorporated those I'm familiar with and have studied the OSRS wiki, YouTube videos, and clips from a friend to understand their mechanics.

    Join the Adventure:
OldSchool Boneyard is a labor of love, fusing my passion for RuneScape with a relentless pursuit of understanding its mechanics.
Join me on this exciting journey as OSBY continues to evolve and provide a unique, captivating experience for all players.

I'd like to share a bit about the evolution of our project, and why it's no longer just an "I" but a "We" effort. In the early stages, it was just me, jotting down details on my Discord Dev log and expressing my thoughts in the Dev Blog while developing the server. But now, thanks to our incredible community, it's become a collaborative journey.

Our journey from "I" to "We" has been shaped by the dedicated members of our community. From the Aussie player who logged in daily, often when I was heading to bed, to the select few who share the same passion for the project that I've developed over time. I want to take a moment to acknowledge that without these fantastic individuals who helped me test and improve the server, we wouldn't be where we are today.

I received a question from one of our Discord members about the benefits of donating to the project. I want to clarify that this project isn't about making money; it's about pushing my own limits and exploring new horizons. My journey in the RSPS scene began over 13 years ago with a deep desire to innovate and create. Yes, we do have a store, but its primary purpose is to ensure the project's sustainability and keep it online.

That said, some members have shown interest in the concept of a donor zone, somewhat akin to Construction. Imagine being able to purchase an instance of an area (we currently have about five options, with the Scorpion Boss's room as a testing ground). But here's the exciting part: have you ever dreamt of having creative control? How about designing and building your very own donor zone? With the ability to unlock upgrades for props, granting passive benefits and better rewards. Moreover, you can even charge an entry fee in GP for others to visit your unique creation.

Our project is all about the community, innovation, and the joy of creating something together. So, whether you're here to play, test, or contribute ideas, you're a vital part of this journey from "I" to "We."

The project is not open source yet... But it will be in the future.

Thanks, I want to bring something that is Old School; both back to the RSPS roots of creativity, but stick with the Old School game we all are addicted to...

I give you massive respect for taking the time and explaining your due process, it really sets the tone for what you want to achieve and how you plan to do it. Not many people can admit they are learning and doing this strictly for their benefit.

This sounds like an amazing endeavor. My only advice, stray away from the OSRS lore and create your own gameplay. Emulating OSRS has been the epitome for most mainstream servers and most have failed because no one wants to play a replica, having your own unique experience is hands down the best way to enjoy a RSPS. It appears you are already doing this and I applaud you for it, just don't change that path.

    Best of luck to you!

My legit goal is to keep enough OSRS mechanics that the game is familur, but have lore that makes sense, doesn't stray from the theme of the game, but does actually feel like something new and not another cookie cutter copy.

I tell people that if you understand the old YouTube videos Machinima; I am using their Game Engine, to create my own story... if that makes sense?

before I left the RSPS scene, Server's used the existing maps and dungeons and repurposed them for a new story, and this is the sort of aim. the roots of where the "custom server" came from (imo)

Working out the details of a Quest series to take the player on a journey to the entre of the earth, to reveal the mystery of Fremennik that dates back to their roots in the early years.

After the earth had shaken, the mines of the Kingdom of Misc. have collapsed, acidic gases and waters have leaked up and the mine in collapsed. The Dwarven race was hired by the Kingdom to repair the mine, but something went wrong, the mine has been left unstable and with no word from the last team of workers that went in, will you reveal the history that should have stayed lost in history.

The first quest of the 3 will take you on a trip into the mines and realize there may be no way out, can you find one, or make one?

and to slip in some humor from a favorite movie of mine I had to play on the dwarfs
