Welcome to a project I had begun in early January of 2021.

What started as a way to better understand the back end protocols lead to a project.

Started with the OpenOSRS RuneLite client and begun to dig through the code to find that RuneLite makes the client and obtaining the data I would need a lot easier.
So I begun looking around for information on the OSRS protocol to see it went to the JS5, so I went and learned what I could about it from git's like [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

After spending a week or so figuring it out and getting my client to download the cache, I needed a way to verify it went over a planed, so I spent another week to study and write up a login system and figured out the rendering,
I spent the next few weeks working on the packets, and while this part of building a server is not "easy" it's made easier with the knowledge available today than back in 2008

After I had it to a state where I could accept a connection and render the player and reading up on how server's like RS-Mod handled the OSRS protocols, I was able to tell a few friends about it and had them test skills
as I took my time to figure out the core things and was able to bring more solid features, that being said I am currently missing some things like bank tabs, sorting and the incinerator, however the closed Alpha crew of Testers
have been breaking my code and helping me better myself and my code. This is a personal project and I will not be putting it Open Source, but that's because I want to learn the OSRS Protocols better as well as how they handle the network.

I've chosen Fossil island as the 'Home' location, and have gone to the roots of RSPS and decided to use the existing map as a source of a Custom server. So I won't be importing new models, I have gotten a couple interfaces from a friend(wants to remain anonymous)
so I've got the Volcano entrance will bring you into Brimhaven, there is a Cave near home where you can enter Taverly Dungeon, our Barrows armor set effects are a custom touch thanks to a community member's suggestion, polled for a week and won.
The Cave near the Base Camp is not the Wyverns; it's a basic slayer dungeon. and other locations have been spread around.

I'm trying to stay away from the RS2 Main Map and using most of the maps that OSRS introduced as the 'main' world. The NPC Spawns are not all where OSRS has them, to fit with the end game plan for the server.
I've been Scraping the wiki when I add new NPC into the game, so the drops, stats, weaknesses, etc. for most of the NPC's are "accurate" to OSRS, but some have been changed. most things are the same as OSRS as I can get just to retain familiarity.

Bosses... So disclaimer... I played RuneScape since the days of RSC, I was fairly dedicated up to EoC, I stuck it through until NXT, but just lost interest in the game style.... When Jagex launched the 2007 Remake, I jumped on it with some friends
and spent a couple days playing it, but then left it cause I played that when it was RS2. I left before GWD was put in, So if the Boss was not a boss from the era from that to where they clearly differ from RS3, I have NOT played any OSRS exclusive Bosses.

So I have added in the ones I know well, and the couple I don't I've been studying Wiki and watching YouTube videos of people doing it, or for better quality; a friend of mine has been recording short clips for me to see the mechanic in action and get timing.
I am a little "slow" to add in the OSRS content because I have to learn it, like Cerberus. As for minigames, I've done Barrows and Fight Pits.

I've got a Dev log on my Discord where I had a lot more datils on the early stages, and a Dev Blog where I just wrote my thoughts while developing the server.

I use the word 'I' a lot when talking about this in the early stages, but now I am a We, as the community has been giving me feedback and support from the Aussie who played every days, which happened to be when I went to bed,
to the surprisingly dedicated few who've seem to have the same passion about this project as I have grow to have with it. I would not be to this point with the server with out the ones who've helped me test.

    Spoiler for Pictures:

Barrows Set Effects(Brother NPC have OSRS Effects)

Thanks, I want to bring something that is Old School; both back to the RSPS roots of creativity, but stick with the Old School game we all are addicted to...

I give you massive respect for taking the time and explaining your due process, it really sets the tone for what you want to achieve and how you plan to do it. Not many people can admit they are learning and doing this strictly for their benefit.

This sounds like an amazing endeavor. My only advice, stray away from the OSRS lore and create your own gameplay. Emulating OSRS has been the epitome for most mainstream servers and most have failed because no one wants to play a replica, having your own unique experience is hands down the best way to enjoy a RSPS. It appears you are already doing this and I applaud you for it, just don't change that path.

    Best of luck to you!

My legit goal is to keep enough OSRS mechanics that the game is familur, but have lore that makes sense, doesn't stray from the theme of the game, but does actually feel like something new and not another cookie cutter copy.

I tell people that if you understand the old YouTube videos Machinima; I am using their Game Engine, to create my own story... if that makes sense?

before I left the RSPS scene, Server's used the existing maps and dungeons and repurposed them for a new story, and this is the sort of aim. the roots of where the "custom server" came from (imo)
