Hello all Runescape fans and Minecraft fans, today I bring you a progress post of a 2007 RS in MC project. We have been hard at work for many months now trying to get things just right for us to be able to use the data we need. We have modified so many different clients and servers, used hundreds of different versions of them, used up over 1 GB of disk space. We've also downloaded too many caches and tools to count, modified a bunch of code, and this is what we have so far, hope you enjoy!

Screenshots of the Wizards' Tower, outside, inside, and underground. Ignore block colours, those will change with the resource pack when it's done.

We got a bit creative with staircases, so here's an example of that. Also Varrock was touched up with furniture!

Draynor Manor is now built, just waiting on furniture.

Oh and Draynor itself was quite incomplete, so we fixed that too.

And just for you guys, here's an exclusive sneak peek at the GE (WIP).

    OLD UPDATE

Spoiler for Dynmap images showing landscape:

Spoiler for Normal Minecraft with resourcepack:

    Spoiler for Shaders without resourcepack:

We had to use a RS Map viewer to get 100% of the RS above ground landscape into Minecraft, we used an open source viewer and modified it to show heightmaps and used those images in a height map to landscape generator for Minecraft.

The scale is 1 RuneScape tile to a 2x2 block area in MC

What makes this server different is the fact that we use the 1:2 ratio so we get just the right amount of detail. If we used a 1:1 ratio like other servers, the detail would be lacking a lot, and if we used the 1:4 ratio or higher, it would have too much space and look too big

We also used a 474 RuneScape map so we could get the building placement and outlines for fences just right, those are placed block by block.

Lately we've shifted our focus to the server side of things, like drops and deaths, here's a video explaining how it works:

Hope you enjoy! Please post any questions or information that may be helpful below!

    Doesn't belong here.

Should be in the minecraft section.

It's still good though. Is the server out?

Not currently, we are reaching towards a pre-alpha stage soon. We need to finalize some more things like coding and some more layout stuff. Applications for pre-alpha are open though.

I wasn't really sure what this would fall under, due to it being RuneScape data and look based. And, not to start any argument, but under that logic, should the RS 3D project in unity be under programming somewhere?

Honestly, it's a project that's heavily based on the RS2 server & client data, while the Minecraft section is a more general "gaming" forum - we both felt this was a more accurate spot to put it.

Not yet, but it's an ongoing project with lots of work happening and so much more yet to be done. We literally spent months just trying to get a clean and complete 474 cache, which is apparently very hard to do. That was our first stage, and now we're working on functionality and building. That drop plugin alone is 1300 lines of Java code, and still has some bugs I need to iron out.

Then watch this thread! We'll be working hard and posting progress reports as we go.

And actually, let me just add a few screenshots here.

Good luck with this my good sir, looks awesome, but I am sure I saw something like this featured on the Old School Weekly video on their channel that was more complete than this.

I just looked through all the videos posted by them, and, from the video titles, I see nothing Minecraft related.

We're definitely not the only people working on a project like this (I know of at least 2 running servers and 2 standalone maps actively being worked on), however from what I've seen none of the others have the dedication to detail that we plan on bringing to the table. Using an OSRS cache to generate the landscape and making plugins one-by-one to recreate specific functionality has never been done before, especially at this scale.

Plus - look at it this way. The drop plugin was coded in less than a week, Tutorial Island was built in.. 2-3 hours, and most of Varrock was built in <5 hours.

Edit: Actually, I found the video you speak of. That world was actually built where 1 RS tile = 1 MC block, halving the scale of the build. It is also done on a flatlands world, meaning the builder has to make the landscape by hand.
