So I'm wanting to develop something new, as opposed to all the same old servers competing against each other. The idea is that I make this server and client (Project LOTR) with massive game changes. When I looked up the idea all I found was this
https://www.moparscape.org/smf/index.php?topic=620959.0 people basically just dissed his idea and it doesn't look like he made it.
First off. Classes
Accounts starting off will be required to choose a class. Hunter, Lore-master, or Champion. Each class has its own starter pack and can spawn from unique locations from each other. I hopefully will add some class-specific items, possible rings, titles, or maybe even more if I get more ideas. Each class spawns a different looking character as well so far.
Client. Of course all the cache to go with any custom work as well.
Might change text or login box yet, client gets a background at random.
Basically I want to change how the game works.
The class you choose from the beginning will help you in pvp.
Lots of pvp titles and eventually rewards as well
I want to create bosses related to the books. Smaug, golem, gandalf, and more are all going to be npc's.
Now I know custom maps are a lot of work and from experience wont turn out well for me. Maybe this is something for the future but I doubt it.
There is lots of places and things I know I can use to make a pretty sweet game.
But I want the armor and weapons all to be unique to the server, so lots of weapon names are gonna change as well as their stats and requirements. I have been playing LOTRO as well thats also where some item names and properties can come from.
Ugh I should watch all the blu rays once I have the chance too I would be busy forever.
Yeah I've now got more of an idea for home. Changing the size of the player was not a good idea so that is out. Aslo might be odd but I found the best way to get popular weapons from the movie I'm going to grab a bunch of information from sites like
Lord of the Rings Merchandise Shop - All Tolkien Jewelry, Swords and Products lol as odd as it is, its right to the point of items I'll have in game.
I'm going to try to keep it a little less cheasy as possible throwing up some more custom items. Pvp will all have to learn by ear once the server is done, should be interesting.
I haven't determined any stats yet but it will be complete.
Unique class-trainer npc's. For the class, and for once the player achieves 99 in their specific class skill.
Heres a better pic of that:
Getting some stairs and doors in and I'm going to be loading this place up with monsters, you only need 50 agility to get in!
I'm trying to incorporate skills such as farming, cooking, and agility as much as I can.
Making shops, a lot more work then the average server, all items have a price as well as lotro based names/stat requirements.
Returning development, trying to customize a single spell book for now, so far I have the home tele, I plan to allow users to customize this location, possibly with some lodestones if thats what they are called. Known locations consist so far of bree, hobbiton, and rivendell. Still LOTS of code to do!
Theiving npc's added. Hunter, implings and butterflies. Fishing spots.
Did I mention beer is free when visiting the hobbits?
More and more is coming together, adding some npc's to rivendell today.
Added the cooking skill, pick and cook potatoes for best results
Cooking fish works as well.
Well I've been pretty slack but I think I might work on finishing this project. Spent a few hours on it again, soooo much code I want to cut out. Anyway:
Max level is 138
This assumes you level up to 120 in your class skill.
Also been working a bit on a new magic book. This isn't finished of course, I thought I would throw up a pic anyway.
That is complete enough for now, some more teleports will be added of course.
Thanks guys, I'm pretty pleased with how well this farming skill is working for me.
By the way, its a free for all. As soon as you plant something, anyone can come and pick it.
This could get interesting...
There we go, getting a bit more variety in.
There we go, getting a bit more variety in.
So I've been doing a bit of work on this spell book interface, what do you guys think?
Gfx are working good as well
Projectiles working
Saw this....

I didn't change any sprites yet but I'm thinking... no.
^ Yes that whole name thing will get dropped lol. I have someone who may be able to help me with graphings, I've been looking into it a bit and might want to build a custom gameframe yet, I can eliminate lots of useless features and build up custom content with custom interfaces creating hopefully a sick gameplay experience. Currently trying to rough out what I want before all the work of making graphics is done.

I know its nothing flashy yet but this may be a mock up of something yet to come.
of course such a great change will most likely be a shitload of work to get all hooked up as well as all the other interfaces I want to include will need new positioning or remade all together depending on what route I take. I want the final product to kind of resemble the following thread, the idea kind of.
http://www.rune-server.org/runescape...es-quests.html
First step in re-doing the gameframe. Just resized what I call the viewport, and dropped those useless buttins that are normally at the bottom, these buttons do not need to be on the sceen at all times and if I still want to include the functionality I can in my settings tab.
I'm also thinking I could make the viewport the full size of the client, sort of like how the full screen clients work. I could then add transparency through the chatbox and have a collapsible side interface for the backpack and other menus.
