i have mastered the art of boolean sandwiches in java and now i'm looking for other languages.

What are some recommended scripting languages? I could write stuff in java but i feel like i'm writing long ass code that can be achieved in less code in other languages. Idk what language to use

    Give a try to Kotlin.

I will. Can you give reasons as to why to use kotlin? Based on your experience

To be honest with you, I don't have a vaste experience with Kotlin, I've heard pretty much only good things about it. I started to read more and more about the language itself and some of the benefits - that I've seen around here - are the fact that you can easily mix both Java & Kotlin together. There is also the productivity to take into consideration, you can write something in Kotlin that will achieve the exact same thing in Java, the only difference will be the amount of line of codes you'll have to write. Kotlin is also fairly "simple" to learn when you have any previous experience with Java. In conclusion, many people recommended it in the past like arham 4 in one of his previous thread. You may also read a lot more on Internet, considering there's plenty of people that have better experience & knowledge with programming languages that could give you more advice, you can also consider asking some of the members around here to see what they have to say.

kotlin isnt gonna teach you much coming from java bc of the similarities. people give it way too much credit and think "i learned a new language". learning something completely different e.g LUA will help you more if what you're wanting is something new.

I agree with you, and I'm a Kotlin advocate! I think that if you want a slower transition, try out Kotlin and then go into Haskell. It'll be an interesting journey that I'm stilling waiting for myself to take. That will transition you from an object oriented platform to functional programming.

PS I don't think Kotlin qualifies as being called a scripting language. (:
