Hey guys, I am here today to ask for some advice. I know how to code java. But I'm not the most efficient. What I'm looking to do, is own a server so I can have fun, while helping others have fun while playing my server.
First off, What source should I start out with? (Download link, or link to thread would be appriciated)
Secondly, How should I go about getting players that want to play and stay on my server?
Third, How much staff should I have?
Fourth, Since I don't money yet for a VPS, is it fine to host on my home PC?

Thanks to whomever helps me out!

you attract players by your advertising:
videos - Threads - Paid advertisements

you get players to stay because of 3 things:

    1. Content
    2. Maintained economy
    3. Uptime

the amount of staff is based on how many players you have ... 1 staff per 10-15 players seems fine IMO.

and the base depends on what type of server you want, no server in the download section is complete, therefore containing many bugs and dupes

Im about to make a server also. Look at some downloads in the downloads section. In my opinion I like oldschool the most. Idc if its old. I like it and so do alot of other people.

To answer your question about running from a home computer; yes this is fine. DEPENDING on your internet/computer specs ofc. I have recently started running my server from my home computer too.

I'd rather pay for a vps than paying for these electricity bills

Yeah I know its not recommended; but he did say he hasn't got the money for a VPS. Yes it would be recommended to get a VPS; yet some people leave their computers on in their households lol; so I guess it would be ok. Some people don't have access to credit cards ect like me. I'm going to try to start my server from scratch; just abit of motivation in life lol. Build something from nothing
