I think he means something like battle-scape where you can choose the revision and it loads stuff from that revision. In order to do this it would have to be mostly client sided. Doing this without a update server is just ridiculous because your cache is going to be huge. You would have to load different item models etc. depending on the settings the user selects.

If you mean to ask how it's possible to load content from the particular revision cache onto one client that is possible with the use of an update server. What you could do is host each cache separately and prompt the user for what revision they wish to run the client on it's startup. The update server would then fetch and store data according to the provided choice.
