How much ram do you have? And by the looks of it you should be able to host pretty good.

Hey guys I was wandering what your opinion would be on hosting a dedicated server.
I have two computers and therefore I want to host the server on the better one, and just put linux on it, wipe HD, and host it 24/7 and remote access it from other computer n stuff. But I just wanna know what you think about the specs and what I'll expect out of it
First of all my internet is pretty good, I have Bellsouth Fast access dsl premium. http://www.speedtest.net/result/655998387.png
It runs very fast for me.
Now the computer I want to do it on is a laptop but it runs fast. It's a dell inspiron 1525,
-3gig memory
-160gig hard drive
-Intel Pentium Dual core processor T3200 @2.00GHz
That speedtest might not entirely be accurate, I get a download speed of about 190kb/sec.
The option is always out there to buy a new computer.
But I just wanna know what you guys think.
-Thanks

your computer is good. dont buy a new one.
your connection is worse then mine. dont waste your time.
Hosting on your computer is not ideal.. the whole point of VPS's is that they use minimal cmd hence making the most out of your server, my cpu on vps runs at around 20%. if you where to run the server / msn / internet app / your client that's a fair ammount of cpu there. Plus an upload speed of 0.32 is not ideal. Even with a stable base I think you're going to run in to issues with stability. I think you're better off getting a cheap vps from vpsland it's alot more reliable than your computer despite the fact there $9.
Idealy i'd suggest opticvps very reliable hosting great upload and download speed and it's only like £18 a month for 1gb vps package.
ur internet speed is actually slower than my shitty clearwire wireless connection LOL computer is good for hosting a server tho with medium amount of players if all the processes are terminated and only the ones needed to run the computer are running

and yea optic is good i recommend them. i was talking to josh just before he showed me the 90mb/s upload and download.
Use a server like hyperion and you could host a server on any old junky computer with like 200mb of ram.
Running a server with around 50 or even 100+ players or something should not lag at all.
Just make sure it's a good internet connection.
