This is a great idea, archiving old files is supremely important.

I like the idea behind this, I hope it's something that is actively maintained. I don't mind making a design for this either. I'm sure I can cook something up ;)

I'd suggest providing an rsync server, to make it easy for people to host mirrors and keep them up to date with minimal bandwidth/manual intervention required. I'd possibly be interested in running a mirror if you did this, depending on disk usage requirements.



I've been working on a cache archiving service for new engine clients which stores the data internally in a content-addressable format. It is converted into the standard main_file_cache.dat2/idx format on demand. This has several benefits, one of which is deduplication - the amount of disk space required to archive every single cache we have should be vastly reduced. (Another advantage that naturally drops out of using a content-addressable format is missing files can be found from nearby caches if the checksum/version are identical.) I'm hoping to start running it in production in a few weeks.

I think it'd complement your project quite nicely, as my main interest is in archiving the original data (clients, caches and XTEA keys) and not servers, tools, documentation, etc., which you do seem to be archiving.

Never heard of rsync but I'll give it a look. I'm probably not gong to bother uploading all those large caches so I look forward to seeing your 500+ archiver.

On a serious note: I think the RSPS scene has always needed something like this, a lot of files have gone missing even images, ill be uploading these to my own file-sharing site as well thx!

I honestly haven't seen that before, I just thought the url was a perfect fit. I'd appreciate a re-archive, these things work best if multiple people are maintaining them independently.

I'll be uploading periodically and the site is already paid through next January. I'll collect things that I find but I'll mostly depend on people posting here to help find files of interest. I'd appreciate anything you can do as far as design, I've been far too busy. If you're intersting in working together send me a pm.

If you can make it easier to mirror i.e. by making an api or something then HMU on Discord (see signature) and I'll stick a mirror up on S3 (with some extras like large caches), but currently I'm not interested in parsing and traversing your apache layout :p

I'll look into making one, would a simple list of all the links in json format with the name and url be sufficient or did you have something else in mind?
