There's more to it than that, and you know it. Stop playing dumb and innocent. You were banned multiple times before that and were given many chances. It wasn't just my decision to perm ban you. It was agreed upon between Ryan and I. I'm not going to continue to argue about this with you though, as you can't seem to comprehend this. Good luck with your endeavors.

So let me get this straight..

Countless years of perfecting a replica only to have a VERY small amount of players play? No advertising, nothing. I see no point. You can not have a successful server without a playerbase behind it, pre-2007 RS2 would have died long ago if only 10 players were active. You need 100's of players playing to have a success. Hosting this has almost 0 cost or very little to almost nothing, so any "donation" made from the start of this project has gone toward what?

I'm confused and discouraged for what the outcome has been.. I remember back in 2015 when I was first introduced to this only to find a wasteland in 2019.

No one asked for a Helen Keller Ironman Server..

I'm not sure why you think hosting costs little to nothing. Although it may not cost hundreds, we do have hosting costs. We're looking at around ~$20/month for the game server alone. That doesn't include costs for the server the website and database is running on, along with the yearly domain costs (we have 3 domains). It all adds up. We only use donations to go towards hosting and improving the project. For some this may be cheap, but for us college students this is a lot and donations help tremendously. We also don't ask for donations, we simply give the option for it if one supports the project

We don't expect to have very many players, especially right now. The server is still in heavy development. We put it out to the public to give people the chance to play it and help find bugs as we to continue to develop it. We have no plans to really advertise until we have a majority of the game completed and have things perfected. Why waste time and money advertising a product that isn't even finished?

I hope this clears up some of your confusion.

No confusion here at all. The sad fact is that ScapeRune will never gain the potential it deserves because it is far from ever being completed and clearly the development team never plans to bring in a crowd of dedicated pre-2007 players to a server such as this.

Players like me that started in 2002 are what you should be aiming for.. I don't see ScapeRune being completed soon. I guess I'll give it another 4 years of waiting, but it's too bad there will be little to no one interested in going back to the stone age..OSRS servers would always dominate this type of RSPS meaning whatever type of advertising you plan on creating will not appeal to this new generation of RS players.

If you hand any kid a mixtape they wouldn't know what to do with it, they would ask Alexa what a fucking mixtape is.

    Get my point?

Help fund us then. If we had more money from donations maybe we could promote earlier. I have funded hosting strictly off donations and there has been many times I paid out of my own pocket because we didn't have the money. We are currently doing every bit of free advertising we can but we cannot justify buying ads with our current budget when the game is still in an early alpha style stage. I believe Michael gave a really reasonable and in depth reply.

The project is really this anyways. Every developer on our team will tell you we had more fun with it before it was even hosted due to the backlash we have received. We make the game solely for the sake of remaking it.

RuneScape veterans are who we are clearly aiming for, I don't really understand what direction you are going with this. The people who are interested in a game from 12 years ago now will be the same people interested in it later on. We have full intentions to promote the game when we are financially ready and have the free time needed, I have said this time and time again . I appreciate the love and support you have for the project, but without being in our shoes it is very easy to look past the time and effort that goes into things in the background.
I just honestly have a hard time believing how ungrateful people can be when they are given something for free just because it isn't what they want.

Do you not feel that this is quite selfish?

You have created a replica of Runescape just for the sake of it being a replica. This reminds me of Runescape Classic all over again.. a self-hosted/never updated pointless game.. with no potential of gaining a huge playerbase ever, etc. There is a reason it was shutdown for good.

ScapeRune should have some type of membership to play in a P2P scene just like the old days (current day as well), if you wanted a 'free' game for everyone to play you still can but accessing member-only areas, etc. would require some sort of "payment". New Players wishing to become members would need to work hard toward gaining membership somehow not necessarily having to donate but possibly turning in an outrageous amount of gold (cash sinks) or gaining a certain total level.. the list goes on. There are sooo many ways to make ScapeRune great. You can go back in time and look at pre-eoc servers that were dedicated to replicating Runescape; Arios is a prime example. This server lacked a playerbase because it failed in advertising significantly, but it was easily the most in-depth coded pre-eoc server at it's time back in 2012-13, no one competed content wise. I could also blame OSRS for that server perishing.

I will be blunt and say I feel this is just a class project something you put inside your closet to collect dust. A true inventor would want to see their invention be the best it can be, even at a cost.

To answer your question about me donating to your cause there will be no such thing until ScapeRune has proven itself.

How's that selfish? We spend our free time (3+ years so far) working to recreate old RuneScape content that can be played by whoever for free. ScapeRune was never meant to be something big as Thing1 has stated a million times but just a project for us devs to work on when we are bored. You know what's selfish, people expecting us to devote all of our free time and money into a server we don't even have the time to enjoy. I have no idea why you choose to compare ScapeRune to other servers when its intentions are completely different.
