The server was first released in early October 2010, which at the time was only owned by Will. Back during the server's first release, it was named Elitescape V5. Meanwhile, Xxx9234 was currently developing his own server, also named Exception, along with former Co-Owner Sarah. The server, however, was never released due to hosting issues. Having worked with Will before on previous versions of Elitescape, Xxx9234 re-joined him as the primary developer in Mid-October.
Content updates and bug fixes began to become more abundant soon after. A significant event that was hosted soon after Xxx9234's arrival was the Halloween event, which lasted from October 28th, to November 3rd. In the event, your goal was to kill ghosts and skeletons in a graveyard in the wilderness, which was changed to a safe zone, in order to obtain pumpkins and Halloween masks, which are now somewhat rare, due to the amount of players who had quit since then. During the Halloween event, the Treasure Trail system was developed, which acts as one of the primary money making methods today.
In early November, the home area was changed from the Warrior's Guild to Edgeville in order to promote Wilderness PK-ing, and to improve the organization of the shops and key NPC's. Content updates to the server began to have a more dramatic effect on the gameplay. The first fully custom minigame to be released was Swarm, where you simply killed waves of Animated Armour Sets in order to obtain PK-Points at a much faster rate, which at the time could be used to purchase Ancient PvP Equipment from the PK-Point shop. Soon after the minigame was released, the Ancient PvP Equipment was removed from the shop. Currently, the Swarm minigame is under re-construction, and cannot be played.
Soon after Swarm was released, the Elitescape client had a significant update. Over 100 items we're added to the client, which included a large amount of Dungeoneering equipment, High-Level Herblore Potions, 3 Chaotic weapons, and Rocktail. These items we're not released, however, until the release of the 2nd custom minigame, Pyramid Dungeon, which is currently a popular minigame, due to its very powerful rewards. Pyramid Dungeon is a minigame in which you search for, and kill a number of enemies in multiple floors of a pyramid, without a minimap. The first four floors contain regular enemies, where you are assigned to kill between 4 to 6 of them to advance to the next floor. The final floor contains the boss enemy. Completing all 5 floors rewards you with bonus points depending on how much food you had left after the end of the expedition.
In late November, Elitescape lost two of its co-owners, Ransom and Sam, and the website, as well as the domain, we're lost. After the site was taken down, Ransom and Sam created their own server using the same source as Elitescape, called YoshX. Will and Xxx9234 decided it was time for a fresh start. Most of the players had left due to the loss of the webclient, and the forum site was gone. A week after the attack, Exception was born.
