Notepad++ is a free (as in "free speech" and also as in "free beer") source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages. Running in the MS Windows environment, its use is governed by GPL License.
I took that from the website.

Alright, so you might be wondering "What the heck is Notepad++, isn't Notepad good enough?" Well, you are wrong. Notepad++ is like a java programmers Tylenol the morning after you drank four kegs last night. Here's what it looks like:

Pretty cool huh? It basically shows you every mistake in your code, incorrect bracket usage, can highlight certain lines so you can find them easier, plus many more features that I will let you find.

Where do I download you ask? Right herehttp://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm. Then click on downloads, and click on the link that says "Download Notepad++ executable files" After that, click on either npp.5.0.3.bin.zip,npp.5.0.3.Installer.exe, or npp.5.0.3.release.md5. Then, when the download is finished, run through the install, and you have succesfully downloaded NP++! "Wait, how do I open my java files," SIMPLE! Right click on any .java file, and look for "Open With." Click that. Scroll down until it says "Choose Program.." Click on browse, then find where you download it to. Click on that folder, then the little icon that Says Notepad++. Then, on the bottom of that menu that you have open, check
"Always use this program to open this file" or whatever. I hope you will all make the switch to NP++, because believe me..It's worth it.
    Back for now...

Rofl, that screenshot you took looks like it IS another notepad, but it isn't. If you seek to do some real java programming and you want an safe, easy to use, and reliable IDE, use eclipse. But other than that, this is great for quick editing in your programs as it color codes for almost all programming languages that are available.

    Lel i feel smart.

You can use eclipse, yes, but NP++ is easier to use imo. And it supports
    C C++ Java C# XML HTML
PHP CSS makefile ASCII art (.nfo) doxygen ini file
batch file Javascript ASP VB/VBS SQL Objective-C
RC resource file Pascal Perl Python Lua TeX
TCL Assembler Ruby Lisp Scheme Properties
Diff Smalltalk Postscript VHDL Ada Caml
AutoIt KiXtart Matlab Verilog Haskell InnoSetup
    CMake YAML

Notepad++ is what I have used for all my programming, not just my server.

Exactly, but I just used java as an example, because I don't do a whole lot of other programming.

Hmm I know a lot of people use it, but I don't like it tbh. I use EditPad Pro, which I have gotten used to and wont be changing from. Editpad pro offers pretty much all these features for free also

Off Topic: Is this a RS2 Server tutorial? I don't think so!!

Ilu. Netbeans IDE is probably THE best program to use for creating java files. It's amazing, and it's 100% free; only problem is the amount of resources it uses while running after a while. Also, Netbeans is all compatible with programming (Including but not limited to) Web and Java programs, Ruby, C / C++, and PHP.

For a very simple, yet efficient and effective development program, use JCreator. It comes in free or pro version, yet I find free works just fine for me. (Not to mention it's safe and doesn't use a lot of memory, so it's great for older computers).
