Why are Custom servers so popular?
In my subjective opinion, I believe that you must be born with a brain inaccuracy syndrome to use and enjoy this type of server.
Yes custom rsps look like shit but that doesn't mean that every1 who plays them is retarded.
They are popular because rsps players are tired of seeing the same shit on every server, i am referring to all the servers that are trying to copy osrs as much as possible lol.
man i'd write an entire 6-8 page essay on this, single spaced APA formatted with completed scholarly sources if i had time.

The majority of your "analysis" seems to be based on the hundreds of absolute shitty excuses of a custom server, but i cant really blame you for that. What about emps world? Eradication x? Illerai? There are plenty of great custom servers that have come and gone (and a few yet to come). People play this because they are probably tired of playing standard rs (osrs and the like) for the past 8+ years. Yeah you see some wacky ass shit but honestly its something you've never seen before and i guess people really like that.
If done right, custom servers can be one of the most popular AND profitable type of server there is. Sadly not many model makers are left and not many people are willing to learn. Then we have posts like this which target people who play these servers and calling them out as idiots (and the weekly release of some shitty custom leech doesn't help either). Custom servers have been getting a bad rep lately and it sucks for those who are trying to bring it out the mud. Say what you will about seeing Goku and spongebob with ak47's riding a lambo, but for some people that shit is funny and entertaining, doesn't make them idiots for enjoying it.

I have to agree. I find a good bit of satire to be refreshing and hilarious. I always try to add humor into my customs, (my treasure hunting skill is called Illinois Johnson (LMFAO) and hopefully people will find the reference as funny as I and my small team do), and I do such things to possible bring a smile to someone's face. I believe that you must be born with a brain inaccuracy syndrome to disagree with OP. Besides lumplum his models are simply the greatest. While its fun to see humorous customs in a server, leave it at fun and humorous. Not to be practical and revolve your server around it.
Like LumPlum said, if done right, you'll have a pretty dank server.
BUT, I think this thread was made mainly because of the ones who are destroying the whole runescape aspect with Pink Torva, Mr Crabs & Goku's.
I understand that this might be enjoyable for a few people, but at least put some effort into it.
for instace: Illerai, Empyrean, Exora. These are the type of servers that I'd like to see as "Custom" servers.
