The community at large has been wrapped up in money hungry developers and lackluster content. Invasive and frustrating methods for revenue has been a large part of the negativity I’ve been reading about within the forums. I believe many of us are overlooking that fact that RSPS stands for “Runescape Private Server” as well. Many great servers exist, in my opinion, based specifically on the fact they have done well replicating Runescape.
Most threads pertain to lack of creativity, fresh ideas, and a leveling experience that is far to rapid. Projects with those attributes fit more within the realm of a “custom” RSPS. These projects that, that everyone seems to request so heavily, usually receive large amounts of criticism, negative feedback(or worse, no feedback ), and are generally offered no help from exogenous sources to benefit the project.
So, with that being said, I would just like to see more positive feed back from this community for these wonderful hard working teams staying true to Runescape with their content! But most of all, I would like to see much more positive reinforcement to the these teams giving us custom content, fresh ideas, and a new world to learn about. In conclusion, we need positive vibes from this community, so that we can at least sustain what we have and potentially restore it. With projects like Empyrean and Illerai releasing I see a brighter future for us yet again! Thoughts?
Amen to that
bump, takes nothing to be nice
good vibes only dude
im sure this post will have a huge impact on our community
As great as this might sound. This is rune server theres too many idiots about
@hypernovamayhe for rune-server president!
Yep, I remember back when RSPSs were just kind of wacky and used runescape as a Canvas for shit they wanted to implement.
RSPSs used to have so much more custom content. Nowadays it really is just "faster pace runescape" that you don't have to pay membership for. It's what happens when you have talented developers that lack creativity. Because certain aspects of the game are "tried and true" (from osrs itself) and balanced - so to actually make custom content (such as minigames and bosses) with custom rewards might be risky. So they'll do their best to implement things the way OSRS does them because they can.
Insert the *back in my day* quotes.
There's always been cash grab servers that follow the crowd, it's nothing new.
You have a point though, I personally would be nice to see more non osrs servers, or 'hybrid' servers loading mixed revision content cus they still usually have osrs stuff in.
Another one. Simply put, these custom servers do not generate enough following. Yeah they're all very different and whatnot but that isn't always a good thing. RSPS players are stupid and stuck up, they're much happier off doing the same damn thing over and over.
Don't let the fact that there are a few people with a loud opinion throw you off from reality. None of the top servers are that type of custom servers, I can't remember the last time that was true(if ever?).
Quality custom models and whatnot aren't a bad thing though, don't get that wrong. Trying to change the gameplay from RS itself is going to however be the death of them, and I believe this is what they've been trying to do? I don't know, I've not kept up with those servers but I've seen a couple other similar type servers that try to actually change the gameplay itself.
Even with all these customs, you still need to be able to provide a game that's RS-like on its own. Most of the game needs to be functional and what not. That's 2 years of development on its own without even getting to the customs part.
