I had a great idea for a server I wrote the backstory/lore for it.
Once brave hero gone missing, no recollection of how you got here. Washed up on sea is a Hero a city called
YourNameHere once knew. You need to repair your ship in order to make your way off the island to survive as the
island holds many challenges and hunger is a means of survival. In this Singleplayer RSPS you will try to survive
as long as possible. Having a hunger and thirst system doesn't help much. Find loot on the sea, scout caves, go through dungeons
with great rewards, discover cities and towns filled with npcs and lore to further fit the storyline. With every skill being unique
in its own way we try to make this RSPS come to life. Many quests and adventures, battles, and pets to achieve. You strive to remember your past
and who you once was. As you battle your way through YourNameHere and its many Mysteries. Do you have what it takes?
I'd play the fuck out of that server.
It seems like a lot of people are limiting the scope of their servers out of a desire to play it safe. As Maximax wrote, those who are dependent on their servers for income don't want to waste labour on something that might be popular. They ask themselves: Why not let Jagex make that risk with their updates? They only implement what they see work on OSRS. I believe that the RSPS community will only overcome this ridiculous, decade-old crutch if people pool their programming efforts into free, open-source servers, so that people don't have to reinvent the wheel every time they want to make an RSPS. I cannot understand why so many show-off threads are "redefined interfaces and implemented perfect walking", as if that hasn't been done a hundred times in the past few years. The code is out there, yet so much labour is wasted on things that already exist. We need to shift that focus on creativity if we ever hope to draw new crowds.
Honestly I think every server is unique, with very small changes to the game you can change the meta or eco of it completely. Just because you log into the same custom edge on different servers doesnt mean they aren't unique in other ways. Obviously, some people will put in no effort at all into ripped sources but those are very unlikely to succeed or even get any attention at all.
