If you create a few unique customs which are reasonable and not stupid or overpowered then there probably won't be much criticism.

trannies are mentally ill
One of the main reasons for me using customs is cause I'm adding custom quests & custom minigames in order to receive these custom items.
I know for a fact that a "real player" won't care two shits about the customs. 80% of the users on rune-server have no clue on how to maintain a playerbase.
As long as the items do not give excessive amount of bonuses or are half-assed it's ok.
You got to find cleaver ways to give it to the players, instead of selling it for multiple millions in a shop.
The "winged-capes" have been a huge success in the Runescape private server community, however, I think they look like shit on a 317 revision server.
My current project includes content ideas built from the ground up and has consequently had several items and npcs that use custom models, however, I've only implemented 1/10 of them as it's set to be a very economy-intensive server with an emphasis on theme. Currently they're obtained in considerably arbitrary ways, such as trading in butterfly jars for some crummy wings or stumbling upon a literal rare bird. I do never fail to receive some criticism for it regardless. Is it part of a mentality that said customs are new or foreign to them, therefore bad?
And I hear you on the death capes, they make me cringe when I see them.
I personally like customs. They make things more fun. And usually give you a minor advantage.
Customs can be good depending on how they look like.
Depends what they are, working on a project that has custom whips/"rares" like partyhats etc. But the highest whip is still worse than a chaotic rapier so it's pretty balanced out.
Dont bother adding customs just makes the server look bad and messy recoloring how ever is not a bad idea like recolored phat's and rares
I'm a fan of lime whips, always have been not sure why.
