You have to at least give jagex credits for the client. I'm sure that would help a little bit. Using offshore hosting helps a lot as well.
If they were going to bother suing people, they would start at the top. (soulsplit)
You have nothing to worry about at present.
When they consider a server to be of too much of a high player count, they'll start sending infringement notices. It's the way a legal department works.
And they're most likely using top lists to search for these kinds of servers, as e.g. Emps-Scape is still online with a high player count but doesn't appear on any top list (right?).
So you guys would advise against paying for advertisement on top list? Where do you advertise then? Just in the forum? Keep it underground?
RuneScape private servers weren't meant to make people money, and they never will be. If you want to make money, go out and actually get a job and earn your money.
Your logic is flawed endlessly. Do not host a server to make money, it is wrong and against the law. While reading this thread I have thought to e-mail Jagex personally and discuss the private server situation and get their side of the story, so to say.
Besides it being wrong and illegal, making money "hosting" servers is not only morally wrong and unaccepted widely by a large amount of RuneScape server programmers, it is next to impossible because there are always antagonists and firewalls, so to say, that will prevent you from doing so.
Hundreds, no, thousands of servers have been hosted in the history of RS emulation and only four to six of them have been able to make money for profit. What they do make is surely nothing close to being able to live on, that's for sure.
Most of the people who have hosted servers and made money have done so incidentally, meaning that wasn't their intention. If it was they have failed. If it is, you will fail.
godaddy.com its offshore?
Just host in sweden.
Easy...
I live in Estonia and host the server on my own computer, so theyll just sue me?
