Looking to make an 'old school' pk server

basically old mage bank

only items would be pk items from before 2006, upto the tzhaar release (so rune/barrows/whips)

I would like to basically make it only from the members fence upwards, so all spawn points are at mage bank, anywhere else wouldnt be accessible. guessing id do this by removing all teleports, and changing respawn to mage bank?

really simple, no skills... only combat (would need to be good combat system with special attacks and stuff)


I also have no programming skills whatsoever apart from ctrl-f and copy paste, so i would need tools (which i think I can find on the rs2 server > tools section?)

basically what im asking is if someone can tell me;

a source to use, is shard the best for combat?

an old school client (no 15% range or mage, no summoning, no piety etc)
and in the client, tell me what I need to ctrl-f for to enter my no-ip address.


I know this sounds nooby and im not trying to make the next big thing in server development i just want something to occupy my time when nrpk is too laggy to pk on :P

Sounds like a nice idea, although I'd doubt you'd get any support.

Look for thr REAL 317 cache and not the 377 one. That has exactly what you want. Search button it.
EDIT: Learn java first or you will never get anywhere..

shard or emulous has great pking but for your client look for the real 317 cache its all items before 2006 i think.

Shard isn't the best for combat, it's the best for stability. For combat, Emulous or Devolution.

Good luck, but honestly you won't get many people to play it, most people that come to private servers are like "amg where are teh godswords and teh peity at".

I myself played runescape back then and loved it, but I'd have to say that 450ish would of been the best version, 317 was far from good.

If this is anwywhere successful, then it will have a small playerbase, but thats all it needs if its just mage bank. I know theres a niche market for it bcause ive spoken to people and they all say 'woah if there was old school mb pking on a server id play it'

Ok, I have found a 317 client, 317 Cache, 317 'server' ran off emulous, but its very basic; no gates open, no slashing of webs, no pulling lever :O

::switch works as does clicking teles but thats about it.

Running it off the client provided is what I really want to do; but the figure of charcters is distorted, and feet dont show; whereas if i run the server on iclarity client the figure is fine.which leads me to beleive that its a problem in the 317 client; but without anything working on the 317 server; ive got half of one and half of the other but not a full one; thats before I even start having to learn to code in npcs and respawn points and all that stuff :P

Would I be better using an another source server such as emulous with basically everything completed and the real 317 client provided? because the real 317client provided is perfect with old icons and things; or wouldnt this work :$

any advice anyone :$

Lol, the point of old mage bank was clans and solo pking, where either 1 could go in and take out another person in ahrims\rune\other gear before another clan got wiff that he was there.

If DI/AG or one of the other Clans saw that you were there you either ran or you tanked out their tber. Hours of world switching to find 1 person with good gear to kill, thats what it was about.

Your never going to be able to recreate that experience sorry.

I know exactly where your coming from, im not trying to recreate the good old days; merely try and make the next best alternative, and frankly im bored and Id quite like to try something like this, even if it fails spectacularly.


I know a few people that would love to play something like this; like I said im not trying to do anything spectucular in the world of RSPS; just make a 'fun' old school situation for a few friends to pk on when were bored; RSPS is the only way to do it so im going to give it a try;

Anyway; wouldnt pking on here basically be the same as on any RSPS; 2specced, nrpk etc; only 1 world; you have team fights and solo fights; but this would only be at mb and in less gear. Ideally there would be team fights like 3v3 5v5 etc? Theres also scope for; luring at agility arena; fights between axe hut and mb/ardy lever, EOH fights, multi fights near rogues castle, its not just pking in the 20x20 squares near the lever; if you get what I mean.

If you could give me advice on how to do things as your obviously one of the better coders out there, it would be greatly appreciated if youd give me some simple noob advice rather than telling me it will never work :)
