We've recently taken the challenge of creating a proper client & cache updating system. We previously forced the player to manually download the latest Client.jar file in order to run the client. This was a cheap way of doing this so we had to upgrade.

Once we had the client updating set, we were inspired in making a unique updating method which was visually pleasing (to most ofc).
This is our result (certain functions & visuals may change in the future) :

    Features:
    • Automatically updates the Client files without manually downloading a new client
    • Cache will download any missing components
    • Welcome screen is initialized for players that are downloading the cache for the first time

It's easier to customize and makes the server feel unique imo.

Was gonna say something about it reminding me of the Windows startup, but I guess everyone else already has.

Nice idea combining launcher/loader and client together.
Quick question though, what's the hardship of downloading a new client each time there's an update? Surely the client is only a couple MB if that?

That's fine if you're downloading cache files, but if you're downloading a new jar it becomes tricky (you can do it, but this is much easier)

It just makes for an easier experience for the end user. Some people figure if they have to head to a website to download a new client, they'll just not play or go elsewhere.

I've had this idea for a while also inspired by the way windows does that, pretty cool
