I was bored so I decided to modify my client a bit. After messing around I managed to unlock the framerate, and here are the results.

The maximum possible is 1000 fps, and as usual it will vary by region, object density (how many objects are in the area), and entity amounts.
Reaching that 1000 fps is probably not possible at the moment with consumers pcs. The highest I have gotten was slightly over 500 fps in the desert with an i7 6700k and a 980ti, not sure if the graphics card really does anything since the 317 client is very CPU intensive. Also the depth buffering may have also impacted the fps, but because of my hardware I don't believe that it effected my fps too much.

Another thing to note is that because the client is very reliant on it's 50fps default for many things like animations, camera angles, hit marks, and general logic, I have artificially limited the framerate at about 60fps for all my test.

This was very interesting to me, and can really show us how much impact other modifications, such as HD textures and higher revision models, have on the 317 client performance.

    Edit:
Forgot to mention that these pictures were taken on my laptop that has an i7 6500u and 940m. Also with the server running and other processes the fps may have been effected negatively as the client rendering is CPU bound.

Gj nice find I suppose. However the FPS' displayed on the pictures was surprising to me. I wonder how did Emps-World(Previously known as Emps-Scape) manage to get their clients to perform that well. I could reach over 900 FPS on their server less than half a year ago in most regions, lowest would be like 500. Interesting. Gj doe lel.

If I had to guess it would be because of the client's reliant on CPU to render everything, and it's general inefficiencies at rendering. This was a vanilla 317 client and I can say that some of the code doesn't make sense. Ie. I found some places where the client will set a variable to itself...
Adding some GPU rendering would greatly increase the fps.

emps had a rewritten client engine that was able to use your gpu iirc.

Emps-World uses a 317 client heavily modified to utilize LWJGL for rendering. They have software mode with multi-threaded rendering though, as well. So even their software mode is better than a default 317 client.
