    I mean conceptually, not a specific server implementation. I'm just starting to get into this rsps biz and am trying to get aquainted with some things and would like to know how something like the ground pictured below is made in a tile-based terrain. I keep hearing about overlays, underlays but there's no information on how they actually work.

    I don't follow. I'm just interested in knowing how they are done. Are they a texture with transparency rendered over the original tile, for example? That's the only thing I can think of.
