I've looked into many forum posts on rune server and I have figured out how to cache-pack easily enough, as well as how to rebuild the cache using toms suite; however, what I'm unsure of is when I have a folder let's say full of item model files (.gz), and a different folder full of NPC models (.gz), in when I'm cache packing I wouldn't just put them all in the same folder would I? Most of the files in the npc directory as well as the item directory have the same filename.gz, which doesn't seem logical to me.

From what I've looked into, there is only the one directory you're supposed to be models in (index1). So I suppose the question is, how do I pack items as opposed to npcs? or both?

    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

You mean create an 'index1' folder with item models, pack it, then replace all those files with npc models in the same 'index1' folder and repack it again?

Does that mean the repacking code knows the difference between an item model and an npc model?

For instance if I have "1.gz" for an item and "1.gz" for an npc. The code will pack them as different entities?

For models it doesnt matter if its npc or item, all models are packed in index1 and then ItemDef/EntityDef reads the models out of index 1

Yes I get that, but what I'm trying to figure out is if I have two files, both named 500.gz, and I put them both in the index1 folder.....how would the code know the difference?

Btw, it's not possible to put two files of the same name in a folder I think, I just want to know how it tells the difference.

You shouldn't have two files that are different unless you are mixing revisions
