Wow this is a quite surprising and awesome release. As a map designer myself I understand the amount of time and effort you put into this, so huge props to you for releasing it for free. I’ve had this idea before but thought “no way that’ll take ages.” For those who don’t understand, if you paid someone to do this you would probably be spending $5k+ ...So seriously props to you for choosing to do this on your own accord, then release it for free! I’m assuming you probably bought that pyramid map from Jigsaw too which is shocking to see that included. I don’t plan to use them, but hope to see someone put this to good use!

I appreciate the kind words from you and everyone else here! I hope that it'll encourage the scene to look beyond just using RS' world. You and Jigsaw are doing some real important work towards changing that mentality. It's been awesome seeing you improve with every project! I hope that NeilG asks you to work with him some more if he really goes through with his Pokemon idea.

Jigsaw and I have been close friends for years, and it was he who got me into mapmaking back in like 2015 when we first tried making a custom world. We were using Dodian's map editor, with huge modifications by Danno, Zaga, and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] as he appears to go by on here (lol). In fact, Avalon was largely put together using that old thing! He and Mikan were planning a small-scale server when he roped me into it to make use of this world. Sadly, real life got in the way quicker than any of us had expected. He wanted to include the pyramids to have a minigame ready upon release, though they never made it into the world because we couldn't think of exactly where to put down those pyramids without either expanding the desert too much or having them awkwardly scattered around what's already there.

Edit: Re: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    Nah mate, that's my post

I'll get around to releasing all the pyramid maps and models as a complete set eventually!

Wow nice stuff Chris, a little sad in a way seeing you put it out there after seeing some if it come together slowly over the last year or so that we've been friends. But man what a cool release. Wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors. And would love to hear from you some time!!!

    • The kingdom of Wyncroft conquered Alderfeld a little over a century ago.
    • Qadim has been a tributary state of Wyncroft for a few decades.
    • Avalon is independent but economically reliant on the mainland.
    • Llandail Forest is seen as unworthy of conquest. Tyllfaen's way of life was hurt by Wyncroft in their past attempts for conquest, but the great tree protected them.
    • A lot of Wyncroft's aggression was the consequence of a past king's paranoia. At the time, it was comparable in size to Alderfeld. (The old town being denoted by the darker walls of the market.) The king saw Alderfeld as a threat, given that it was a rich port city that could make alliances that Wyncroft could not.
    • After Wyncroft conquered Alderfeld, they shut down the ports for years, if not decades. It wanted to realign the entire region's economy to be reliant on them. Even Qadim, who would mostly trade with desert towns across the western mountains, was strong-armed into becoming a tributary state, with the promise of varied goods and enough independence for the royal family to remain rich and powerful.
    • The thinking with the current king, the grandson of the paranoid conqueror, is that Wyncroft can look outward with caution. It was only a decade or two ago that they began selling lumber to Avalon, Alderfeld's traditional trade partner. This limited external trade explains why I didn't make any other islands. The world would have opened up as the king became more lenient, according to lore.

I could link you to the quest ideas if you're interested. Some of them are pretty cringe and full of inside jokes, so I'd have to run by them before uploading them anywhere lol
I like the fact that this map's lore appears to be more realistic than RuneScape. Like, for example, no gods running the land, just rulers. I would imagine the Magic and Prayer skills being a little disproportionate in this realm though, since they have an affinity to the gods.

And sure thing! It'd be fun (: If you want a Discord: Arham#0004, else Rune-Server PMs work fine too. (:

Also dude, cringe? Have you seen Cook's Assistant? Hahaha

Thanks Tama! It's too bad that things didn't align better to give us a proper chance to collaborate, but c'est la vie. Assuming everything goes well with work, I won't have time to spend with anyone for a good six months...

Yeah, I must be too much a product of the Enlightenment to want to create a world where people don't feel as if man controls its own destiny. The Witcher was a big inspiration for showing that you can create a vibrant fantasy world without the cop-out of "it's magical because the gods made it so". It would've been a good idea to look into Shinto for some inspiration on spiritualism and rituals, and how that can shape the role of magic and prayer.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]'s the link to the quests! I wrote a huge explanation of the references, but the fuckin' forum fucked some of the links to some YouTube videos and tried embedding them. When I removed the links and saved the edit, it erased everything written in the post... In short, the server was gonna be called Rune Saga because there'd be a few huge quest lines (sagas) in which you explore the lore of the land. The one island that's on the map now was much bigger at first, and some of the quests reflect that in how they play out. They can always be adapted and/or intertwined with the mainland. A lot of smaller quests were meant to elicit the silly humour you get in a number of RS' quests. If you dig any of them, but don't get the references, feel free to ask about them in this thread and I'll explain them! Otherwise, feel free to use any of them as a starting point for your own ideas!

As a lore geek you have no idea how disappointed I am that there wasn't and won't be a server fully dedicated to this.
