So as my first tutorial, I am going to start getting the Google Cloud Platform tutorials on the way. Here's a detailed guide to starting your Virtual Machine in the Compute Engine.

    So why choose Google Cloud?

    1. Firsst off, its Google! What in this age doesn't run on Google? From your GPS, to your Android phone, to API you use in your websites and everything in between. So why not trust it with your Private Servers?
    2. Second off, the Google Cloud platform is reliable and amazingly detailed. From one console, you can host anything from your VM engine to networking to SQLs and debugging and everything else you can think of to run your websites or servers.
    3. They give you $300 to start off! No strings attached and you don't need to update billing until after it's all gone. It bills by the hour of your instances running. Even as, you get anywhere from 3-6 months of free VPS. Who wouldn't want that?

So have I convinced you yet? Well lets give it a go!

    Sign-Up and Getting Started

So to start off you got to go to the website to get started.

    https://cloud.google.com/

    Attached image

Alright once your here, click the Try it Free button and sign up with all your details. Once you finished that you should come up with this screen. Go to the menu, under Compute and go to Compute Engine

    Attached image

Might take a minute or two to get set up, but once there create a VM.

    Attached image

Now, for this tutorial and for ease, we shall be doing Windows Server 2016 Datacenter. Create a name for your VM, choose your cores and memory.

    Attached image

Click on the Change, Scroll to the bottom and click on Windows Server 2016. Choose SSD drive for better functionality, and 50 GB should be alright size.

MAKE SURE TO CLICK ALLOW HTTP ACCESS

This part is an extra but will help with storage, at the bottom, click on Disks. Than click on Create Disk.

    Attached image

Name your disk, choose SSD drive, click on Blank Disk and set for another 50 GB (your only allowed 100GB of SSD storage on Trial)

After that is done, Click on create and you should be led to a screen with your VM name and its external address. Now where it says connect and RDP, click the little arrow down next to it and click on Windows Password.

    Attached image

It will bring you to a screen with your username, just click on Set, it will come up with a password. Copy and save this away as you need it to connect to your VM. Now, click on RDP, it will bring up to download from 3rd party client. Click on it and run the RDP connection, Allow all connections and when it comes to the user screen use that password given. ((Sometime the copy will have spaces in it, make sure there is no space at the front or end of the password. You can be able to change this later.

Congrats! You have your VM running.

    STATIC ADDRESS

Last thing to setting it up is getting a Static Address, or anytime you stop and restart your server you will lose the IP.

So go to your menu and go to Networking under Compute and go to External IP Address

    Attached image

Now when your there you will see your VM. Click on where it says Ephemeral and choose Static Address.

    Attached image

After it finishes, you have a Static Address.

Well there you go, that will get you set up with a VM running on Google Cloud.

Next is setting up your server to host a Domain Service and connecting to your external ip address. Stay tuned!!

If you mean the difference compared to using a regular host; its just more setup steps you take. I believe he's just trying to make this a more attractive option for new servers.

Yeah giving Google your payment details is REALLY sketchy. They're a pretty unknown company. They could steal your identity!

Google is a unknown company? They are one of the biggest and most trusted companies in the world. They will not steal your info or your information.
Yes they do require a real credit card/debit card for verification but will not charge you unless you update your billing to be charged. It is absolutely free unless you run out of credits and want to upgrade.
Anybody with a google account for Android phones, or Google Maps, or anything in between is giving out more info than this. It just requires verification for card.
As for why its better than a different host? you get absolute control over everything, internal and external. It is running on Google servers, which are some of the best worldwide. The reliability is on point without crashes to the system, and can operate more than just the server. You literally have absolute and full control of your servers, down to every variable and settings. I have ran a few servers that only give you RDP access, for crashes or anything to that point, you have to put in tickets and wait for a response. This is full control head on.

I can see that. I just giving another option for hosting, as some people might like this host as i do. Its more functional compared to others i have used in the past and i do trust google when it comes to their servers. It has worked fine for me and as it seems from my messages, i've helped out 4 people setting up the Google Cloud in the past few days so i'm not the only one who wants to use it.

if you choose not to use any real info online, then you probably wouldn't be hosting a rsps, given the payments and registrations you have to make

this is a good alternative for newer servers who don't necessarily have the funds to host.

    Thanks for the share!

I know. I'm just mocking that mentality. It's 2017, what's gonna happen? Gonna get murdered at your home by a stalker for buying a google cloud server?

The only people I can see trying to remain completely anonymous online are just sketchy ass people who shouldn't be trusted whatsoever because they clearly have something to hide.
