I was being nice. Just trying to educate people since these are pretty important concepts in security, this is a tutorial after all. I hoped you would have looked up the definitions by now but here we go again... Ciphertext, by definition can be decrypted. Encryption, by definition can be REVERSED. Hash values, by definition cannot be 'decrypted'

If you go to the wikipedia article of Encryption you will see there are zero (0) mentions of 'hash'
If you go to the wikipedia article of Hash Function you will see there are zero (0) mentions of 'encryption'

That is because the terms are not related and you shouldn't use them interchangeably, it is not pedantic, I'm not trying to boast my ego. I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks about me.

I am just so done with this topic at this point. Look, if you had been clear from the start and just said "the title is off you shouldn't call it encryption because it's not" I would have actually respected it but you did the same thing a lot of the other people on r-s do which is give some half assed remark at the person who's trying to be helpful and I personally take offense to that.

What's done is done I honestly just want to leave all of this alone and just keep it about the general tutorial. I am sorry that I am misleading the masses by using a synonym for securing data as the title. If you would honestly like me to change that then please tell me what would be correct to put there since I obviously don't know instead of continuing this useless bs.

the difference between the two is basically this:
if i encrypt your face a surgeon can repair it to how it was before i hit you
if i hash your face god have mercy on the outcome and if you're in bad luck it looks like the face of savions after i messed it up as they can give collisions : - )

i hope you understand it's not interchangeable

This is not SHA-256, you're using PBKDF2WithHmacSHA1 (which isn't bad), but if you really want to dive into security on a RSPS, try AES-256 which is supposedly the best you can get!

I don't understand why do people do copy this code here and paste this here tutorials, this is more of a snippet than a tutorial. There's no explanation of the code of whats going on. I'm not saying its not ok but it's just not a tutorial and rather a snippet
