I see a lot of people with this issue on 718 revision servers, and I too experience it. It's a very simple fix that I accidentally stumbled upon one day and have been using this method ever since!
So a lot of times when editing your cache, whether it be using an IDE, client background editor, sprite editor, etc... an issue occurs when initially packing causing the client to not be able to read the cache.
What happens is, when you try opening your client, it will show 0% for a split second and then go completely black, no matter how many times you try to re-start it. Here is what you see:
Spoiler for error:
and then quickly goes to black.
How to fix:
First of all I should mention that you should ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP. This is not rocket science, you don't want to have something mess up and not be able to go back and re-do it.
Now, when this error occurs, simply re-pack your cache into another editor. What I do is put my broken cache into an IDE and change the price of a random item by 1gp. If it doesn't work the first time, keep doing it until it does... trust me, it will work.
It's that simple
Thanks are appreciated.
Thanks this will help many people
Yeaaaaaaa! You showed me this over skype lol. Works wonders.
Good contribution to the community man. Cache issues probably control a good 10% of the help section, so hopefully people can be helped.
one of the better submissions to the community
