    It's not only about network speed. It's about bandwidth as well. No shit.. On a private server no optimization is going to make a single shred of a difference, but when there's hundreds of thousands of people playing at once, saving one byte in a highly used packet would increase overall network speeds by allowing that free space to be used elsewhere by even more players.
