I believe you just answered your own question. The level of activity, especially in a niche such as the Grand Exchange, is directly affected by the number of players. Fewer players will inherently mean less items being purchased, which would mean that a higher number of exchange slots would serve beneficially.
It wouldn't because the items would barely passed around in the economy. You'd be better off having oldschool varrock or a forum at that point, don't get me wrong I like the idea and it looks cool.
Smaller servers usually do better with player owned stores. I don't code much but this I do know.
I apologise, somehow I completely missed the notification for your response. I agree that an in-game market comparable to Varrock or a forum section would be great supplements, but I don't believe a private server's market could rely solely on those components. When items are sold via the Grand Exchange, they are globally available regardless of whether or not the seller is online; with a forum, however, both players would need to be available at the same time, making it difficult for those in different time zones. RuneScape's economy worked well prior to the Grand Exchange because of the high volume of players. At any point, regardless of time zone, there were tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of players online, which left plenty of opportunity to make sales.
lol looks interesting but i dont think it is really needed to add tabs to ge to make more slots as Hitten said above you could add a scrollbar and your problem was solved
