Why not from completely scratch so you can copyright everything? Good luck anyways!

Oh gee, yea why don't you make tens of thousands of assets? It only takes a small team of 15 like 2 years...

It's definitely a possibility in the future. I'm no map designer by any means, so if I can find someone who wants to fill that role, then absolutely. In the meantime, there's plenty of dungeon/over-world maps I can work with to get a fair amount of content for launch. Right now my focus is on the core and content, and then I can start to think about custom maps.
As quoted above, there's just too many variables that a single developer (note developer, I'm not much of an artist) for me to reasonably attempt a project on that scale. Plus, developing for RuneScape Private Servers already gives me an audience of potential players instead of having to market a nothing/unknown game. It's really a hobby project at the end of the day, and a test to see just how far I can push the client and how that correlates into providing an entertaining game.
Great work chaflie!
Great job, it's nice to see someone do what Jagex should have done years ago. Use the technology/engine of Runescape to actually make more games!
I was just curious cause it's my goal one day, the guy seems to have enough skills to pull it off so I wanted to know why not. I've worked on rsps projects longer than that so I don't see why not, considering it'd be a much better route IMO if you're skilled enough. Yes more difficult that's why you'd need the skill level to pull it off, and yes marketing and stuff would be a tougher one but games sell their selves at the end of the day. It wouldn't be impossible to put together a decent sized team to pull it off either so I'm not sure why you reacted this way, you used to be really cool too. I guess maybe we don't have the same ambition. Also you don't need a million dollars to do this, there is such things as investors and other ways around it, you could even start small and grow.
P.S read the comments in the first link you posted it basically explains the same things I was.
I understand and explained my point in asking above, best of luck again, looks bad ass!
Unfortunately, it's not about skill, somethings just take time, a lot of time. A one-man army/small team wanting to build an MMO is a cliché for a reason and that's why my comment was tongue-in-cheek. I could write several essays on why it's not a good idea to pursue but I don't want to hijack Chaflie's thread, so instead I'd be happy to discuss it elsewhere, otherwise I'll just leave you with this semi-famous reddit post to read https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comm...m_medium=web2x
Enjoy Chaflie, it's good to see something fresh!
