Development Blog (5) - Chatbox beginnings, Notification Overlay, Activity Overlay
Hello again fellow Runik supporters, and new faces alike! Today I've got quite a few things to go over, and I'll break them down one by one. Please use the picture above as a reference to the new components I'm talking about.
- Notification Overlay (The component with the title 'Valuable Loot') and it's activity overlay
- The first bit of fun visuals I did this weekened were the notification overlay and it's activity monitor. I wanted something fresh and also something that alleviated chatbox congestion, so alas, a new notification system was born! This handy overlay allows me to edit the title and sub-text to be whatever it is I wish to notify the player about, including but not limited to valuable loot, world events, level ups, information, and more. Included is an activity log that will display your most recent notifications.
- Chatbox beginnings
- Whew, what a doozy the chatbox has been for me. Taking the majority of my time this weekend was figuring out the chatbox CS2, as well as just.. where the chatbox was going to go. I've got to keep smaller resolutions in mind when developing Runik (the lowest we can support is 1366x768) and that means components needed to be in places that made sense. With the available information I have, it was decided in our Discord that best way to support the chatbox was to prompt it by pressing "enter", and inputting your chat, while sending your message, the chatbox would then again close. However, left behind would be a quick overview of the recent chat messages that you have opted in to see (private messages, world chat, local chat, party chat, etc). This chatbox needs quite a bit more work, but it's been great to get the core functionality in place and setup for finishing it off, and adding more functionality to it.
- Other various changes
- While not visual, here are the other changes made to Runik this weekend
- Fixed mode has been completely removed from the client
- Additionally, the resizable game now supports the lowest detail modes!
- Various client refactoring
- Various server refactoring
- Runik is now on Discord! Sadly.. we cannot put the link in the project thread. Once the project rolls on a bit more, we will purchase affiliate
Thanks again for supporting Runik, and we look forward to our next development blog!
Looking good pal!

I think this is the most exiting project in a long time
Chaflie, this looks revolutionary. How long do you think it will take to release?
Looks interesting, best of luck.
