So i wanted to use matrix 876 as a 'shell' to render 878 stuff that is in the cache (render npcs, inv icons) (thus no server coding required). However the matrix 876 client/deob reject the cache and crash the game whera game and login have no problem with it. So is it possible to such a thing?

Obviously, a 878 cache wouldn't be compatible with a 876 client without the proper modifications.

How hard these modification would be? Is it just to set some parameters, because i only want to render npcs and items.

You'd have to look in the client what precisely has changed with the revision difference and rewrite those parts. You'll also need to redo stuff like packets.
Quite a tedious process considering you'd only advance a few revisions.

So it would be better to just edit the cache then? Also do there an editor for 8XX?

It would be easier, but not better. As far as I know, no there isn't.
This process requires quite a bit of knowledge though. I wouldn't bother myself. At worst you can always pay someone if you're desperate, unless you have the knowledge yourself.
