- Reduce quality to 255
- Change to GIF
- Reduce quality to 250
But i keep getting this error message.

Did you delete some child sprites and then try adding the image? Also, It has been a while for me and I don't have Photoshop in front of me at the moment, but If you save the picture for web and set the color it should work.

As Eldritch said, it has nothing to do with the physical size of the image, but the size of the file.
I believe it's been suggested before that you upload your image to something like tinypic.com, reduce the quality/other shit, and then get the image link and download it, it should be a smaller file.
