Umm.... Idk I forget it was a long time ago. I do not know a reason why because I have no clue when it comes to clients.

Actually it's possible, the new engine client's load both the new and old header, i presume this is so they don't have to convert all their model's to the new header.

Editing items is also possible since it's done the same way as in 317.

If you want to find the model class look for "- 23" or "- 18" which are both the header offset's.

Although, it isn't hard to load a model of your choice it would be annoying.

They tend to release a new version of the client for new items/npcs/objects.

They modify the cache, we hard code them in.
