So while working on concepts for a new UI for a project I've been working on, I ran into an issue with Jagex's sprite system not allowing me to pack sprites with more than 256 colors. The majority of people solve this by using photoshop to "save as web", which loses the semi-transparency on pixels that require it. To solve that, I did some digging on keeping 8 bit transparency but reducing the color palette to less than 256 colors, allowing me to keep the soft edges on the UI kit I was working with.

Below is the tool download and example of what I mean. Just simply plug in your PNG-24 sprite, and you'll be able to convert your sprite into a color palette that'll work with the sprite system.

    Before (saving as web):

    After (using Color Quantizer):

Yeah my comparison wasn't the greatest (I had optimized the fuck out of the GIF/PNG-8 image at this point) but you can see it pretty clearly when looking at the edge (pictured below). The real use-case of this tool is to allow for semi-transparent pixels to be saved in a format that is acceptable with your sprite editor of choice, allowing for a broader range of sprites to work with.

Also you can see that my soft-edges are saved in the circle, ever so slightly. I'll replace the comparisons when I can get back onto my laptop.

Thanks pal! I wish I could pay the developer somehow for this tool, but it's been giving me the chance to do some pretty cool stuff.
