The month of September has been a big month for Ely. More growth, big & frequent updates, Ironman competition, server performance improvements & more! We have been striving to make Ely a stand-out server since day 1 and at over 2 and a half years later, we're still going strong. The most highly anticipated update, the Ironman Rework, has been an incredible hit. We re-wrote, re-adjusted & re-mastered Ironman on Ely. After taking a step back and looking at the game mode as a whole we saw it could use a lot of improvement. We cut no corners and started the game mode from scratch. Since then, the grind for XP has been huge and the HiScores have quickly become populated with some impressive gains. A total of $75 in rewards have been given out & $100 still remains to be claimed. Seeing the community embrace & enjoy this game mode has been incredible. Ironman mode on Ely is now true to its core purpose - going at it alone. There are no advantages given to any Ironman that can’t be obtained by all. It’s fair & balanced across the board. Your donator benefits no longer apply to your Ironman accounts, removing that stumbling block to players who can’t.

The next big change we've made to Ely is redoing our client. The official version 3 is now live & comes with some incredible, never-before-seen features from a 718 server. As time has gone by we've noticed quickly how popular OSRS was among the players. From early on we started adapting by introducing our first OSRS Boss - Cerberus. The big Hellhound quickly turned into Skotizo, Demonic Gorilla's, Kraken, Zulrah, Venenatis & our latest addition - Vorkath. While offering this content has been big for Ely, we decided to take a large step forward by re-wrapping our client to match. Our latest client comes with a brand new, never-before-seen feature known as "OS Mode." What this is, is a simple button on the top right of the client that instantly transforms your entire client from the 2012, Pre-EoC gameframe to the latest OSRS gameframe. Player's are much more familiar with this style & look. However, we didn't stop there. We added a Settings interface to customize each mode (OS or RS mode) to match your liking. Both modes can be fully customized to your liking from x10 hits, old or new HP bars, old or new hitsplats, old or new textures, old or new floors, old or new shop interfaces, tabs on bottom or top & more! But wait, there is more. We also introduced another never-before-seen feature, Ely Share. The screenshot button integrated right into the top right of the client is also directly integrated into our Discord so your screenshots, achievements, 99's & more are instantly shared to the community! All this has been neatly wrapped up in the gorgeous Runelite UI. What is there to not like?

On top of tons of content additions, bug fixes & changes made within Ely, we've also recently decided to take a look under the hood. Ely is currently in a state which allows us to dedicate more time to focus on the backend of things such as server effciency & performance. In doing so we've discovered some things which would benefit from a full re-write from the ground up. To kick this off we've decided to re-write things in a top to bottom structure. Inefficiencies that have the largest impact on the server first down to the most minimal. One of the larger things we've started on was Item Weights. In the old code - the server used to loop through every single item that exists & check if that item was in your inventory. It would do this loop every time someone opened the equipment tab or anytime it has to calculate weight. Now imagine this happening to all the players daily checking their bonuses, etc. It surely has an affect. The improvements made here are now it loops through items already in your inventory, or already equipped. Then it checks & calculates the weight from there. It no longer loops through the 100,000+ items we have every time! The second thing we re-wrote from scratch was the Quest tab. Previously, this tab would consistently send data back and forth from the server to the client every second. And that's a load of data, for example - with all the players online and their Quest tab sending all this data every second. With the rewrite here now the server only sends the data when it needs to be updated. When you open a Mystery box, it'll send & update that information. When a player logs in or out it'll send that data & update. Instead of sending & checking this information every second of every day from every player. Good stuff.
